Brian Sewell Dies 22:39 - Sep 19 with 7508 viewsToast_R

RIP Brian Sewell...
Whilst I never understood much of what he talked about, you couldn't help but enjoy that unmistakably upper class posh Edwardian accent.

I came to know of him via the Victor Lewis-Smith windups in the early 90s.

Amazing autobiography. Hobnobbing with artists, sex with guardsmen, home to his miserable old mum.

RIP ... Beyond posh he was his own man. A minute's silence on the marshes sunday ... shirley.

A caustic wit that is sadly lacking in media these days, bon voyage.

Not really, caustic only works when valid, if you go caustic constantly as he did it just turns into crying wolf. He contributed very little for someone with such an opportunity and profile. IMO. Poor at best.

Very sad for his family, friends, and fans but never thought Brian Sewell would be discussed on a QPR fan site.

We're a broad church Bazza. From strawberry jam varieties to allotment best practice, we pass a cursory look over art critics too. lol

Are there many varieties of Strawberry jam other than Strawberry?

Christine. The Strawberry girl. Christine. Banana split lady.

I've got no problem with speaking ill of the dead, but I fail to see why this bloke should attract such ire. What did he do that was so bad?

Poll: Deaths of Thatcher and Mandela this year: Sad or Glad?

Why thank you. Then you won't be offended if I point out that you can't read. It clearly says Benny the ball.

No ire here just seconding what an earlier poster stated, that he was an arrogant prat. Perhaps you ought to change your signature to "Poll: Deaths of Sewell, Thatcher and Mandela: Sad or Glad?"

No, I won't be changing that poll. I leave it there because it allows me to be uncharitable of people who have died, when I think truths have to be faced. But in the case of both Thatcher and Mandela, they have claim to having made significant positive change in the world, while they are also often severely condemned for things that they did.

I don't see how Brian Sewell qualifies on either account. Why do you dislike him so much?

I was thinking of translating Bazza's post for you, but I won't bother now. You can read. You figure it out.

RIP Brian, he will be sorely missed. He was the antidote to Tracy Emin and Damien Hearst.

Strong and stable my arse.

1

Because he was "posh".

Poll: So how was the season for you?

Yes it says Benny The Ball, in the same way Norman Bates answered the phone in his mum's voice.
