We slumped to their level - not only in terms of performance, but also in terms of team selection. We were so negative for a team needing to score to progress.
Why 3 centre backs (none of which were any good) ? I know we needed height in the team - but really ?
Why wing backs that don't get forward ? Targett is miles off his performances of last season. Cedric is more attacking, so should have been used.
Why such a piss poor lightweight midfield with Davis and JWP worse than awful - AGAIN !! Gave the ball away so much and just hoofed whenever there was a chance too. Yes the weather didn't help, but we were so slow at moving it forward for a team needing to score.
Should have gone 3-3-4 With Mane, Long, Pelle and Tadic up front for the last 20 when we were crying out for pace and a goal.
Not so much time wasting as I expected, but some bizarre ref decisions. Lots of fouls on us weren't given including the blatant ones on Targett and Davis - look at the stats on this - quite unbelievable really. Obviously the worst was the punching away of the JWP free kick - 100% a penalty and yellow card.
Yes the pen may have given us something, but lets be fair, it would not have been deserved. Gutted we are out - was desperate for another euro trip. Hope we can pick ourselves up for Sunday and the sooner this fvcking transfer window closes, the better - and we can finally start our season !! | |

He needs more than an extra defender. But if Clasie and assuming Vic stays we'll be back to the high quality screening of the defence. This was central to everything good about Saints under Poch and last season. There was an ability to stifle the attacks and move into a counter. This system has also made the likes of Lovren, Toby and even Fonte look better than they actually are. This midfield screening was completely missing tonight and if Vic goes and Clasie isn't up to it there will be major problems ahead this season. | |

I would have expected us to have set up with a very attack minded line up and set about them from the off with pace, such as our second half display last week. Surely they would have analysed last week and but for some decent goalkeeping we could have seen the tie off. Strange display on both occasions. Still chin up role on Tuesday and at least by then we Will no our squad . | |

I haven't seen a shred of evidence of high quality screening of defence by Clasie. He's just looked weak and slow. Even the pace of the friendlies seemed to completely pass him by. Wanyama is one of the few good Premier League players we've got and after seeing the dross that's been brought in around him, I can understand why he's keen to leave. [Post edited 27 Aug 2015 22:31]

Also didn't understand why Mane was on the bench yet wasn't fit enough to play?
Oh well, we can concentrate on the league now I guess and the bed wetters will have less to moan about.
Silver lining is the transfer window is still open and another few quid might be made available. When we are back to full strength and with a few new signings, we will be fine. I haven't seen the Koeman post-match interview but if he decides to defend the players tonight, I might edit this post... no excuses tonight. | |
