10,174 for a league cup game v York 10:27 - Aug 26 with 9357 viewsScoobyWho

Excellent turn out last night, I took my lad along and spent time with some friends in the east. Not like a league game admittedly, atmosphere was not the same, you could chat away with people you know and it gave me a different perspective on what superb strength in depth we have. For a lot of York City players this was a cup final, listen to their manager,he explains it well.

On the attendance I don't read any local thoughts to the east of us regards double figures for a game v a league two side, they usually chirp up with some cock waving statements like Saturday v Sunderland forgetting the 83 they took to Middlesboro last season. Cardiff have failed dismally to attract over 6000 in recent cup years, we should be proud of our turn out last night, and I enjoyed the away support as well, they definitely enjoyed themselves.

I'm not sure about Hull away, it has always been a hard place to go to and get a result, and as for travelling jacks, well, at least it gives the teams below us to have another crack about our away support forgetting it's a 700 plus mile return journey on a week night.

Still, as they can't knock our football, there's little else for them to unzip their trousers to.

Bless.

I even recall Alsop scoring a hatrick in record time, something like 8 minutes could have been less.
Mind you desperate times they were.

I remember we scored 7 or so in one of these games years ago, a striker I can't for the life of me think of bagged about 4....poor attendance though!

I think 10,000 odd is really poor. Yes it was York, but we are still Swansea.....that's who we go to watch and support, right?!. Clearly not in some people's case, as the Lib will be packed Sunday for Man Utd, half of those could not be bothered to pay £12 to watch and back the boys. For me, who travels from Pembrokeshire to games home and away (yes, I was there last night), it's disgusting when people from Swansea and a stones throw from the Lib can't be bothered for games based on our opposition......

I believe that was the mighty Darren Perrett.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I think the fan base spreads far further than Wales with many season ticket holders across the bridge. Finances are the key issue, and this has been said before, families, money, summer holidays, work etc ... Over 10,000 is surely a superb attendance, you remember when that was just under a capacity at the vetch ? v Hull. The club is growing and for me last nights attendance reflects a club going in the right direction.

We got more for the pre-season friendly which is disappointing really.

In the area I sit we recognised nobody and everybody near us for league games is a season ticket holder.

A few of us were talking about the FAW Premier Cup games the other night. I went to pretty much all of them back then and you'd only have the centre stand and east terrace open. The away end would have about 30 fans.

Genetically, paedophiles have more genes in common with crabs than they do with you and me. Now that is scientific fact. There's no real evidence for it, but it is scientific fact.

Possibly the best way to judge whether it was poor is to compare it to other PL teams who were at home to lower league opposition:

Aston Villa v Notts County - 21,430 - Average attendance last season 34,133
Crystal Palace v Shrewbury - 10,978 - Average attendance last season 24,421
Newcastle v Northampton - 26,923 - Average attendance last season 50,359
Sunderland v Exeter - 14,360 - Average attendance last season 43,157
West Brom v Port Vale - 13,915 - Average attendance last season 25,064

Swans v York - 10,174 - Average attendance last season 20,555

So almost all clubs had a drop of around 50%, the same as us. Aston Villa and Sunderland are the exceptions, Villa doing better than that, Sunderland significantly worse.

So rather than really poor, it's around the same as the other PL clubs.

Numerous times we were sat down on the NB with no fear of being trampled or even accidentally stood on.
Didn't need an all seated stadium!!! In fact we could have played at the Morfa athletics place and probably not filled the stand they had
That BBC cup/ FAW cup had some shocking attendances.
I thought we'd been in a sub 1000 league attendance, just couldn't remember the game.
In fact, a fair few league games were close to dropping below the 1000 mark.
With the atmosphere some games created, it felt more like there were about 20 there!!!

Was stuck down in London and missed the game.
Congrats to all who turned up. Excellent number- better than when we played Scunny I think(our Dr holding Bessie up with one foot on the pitch, sh1te ref, 80 odd scunny fans.)
Well done to York for their support on a long journey mid week.
Far more than our Eastern cousins took to Boro!!!

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

You made up for it by making a lot of noise and obviously enjoying it all.

Poll: Who wants the Swans to lose games get relegated to get rid of Huw and the yanks.
