Yea I enjoy macro. My camera is a bridge and for me it's brilliant. I was saving up to get a dslr but realised couldn't justify spending 300+ this was just over 100 pound. It's in my bag everywhere I go. | |

Bought my SLR second hand on eBay for just over £100. Have spent a bit more since then on extra kit (70-300mm lens was the most expensive) but am probably still below £200 in total.
Might invest in something more expensive in time but this one does me. Get some good shots with it.

Nice photos.
Had a couple of SLR's over the years and never really got on with them, too complicated for me probably  .
Use a fairly cheap digital camera and it suits me for what I need it for, there's no doubt, though, that SLR is the way to go for better quality. | | | |

Bought recently a Nikkon Dx330 for portrait work...I'm new to photography but as long as you take a shot of a well lit face certain programmes will enhance it beautifully at the click if a mouse making you look like a true professional when really you know zilch.

I've got better definition on my compact, but you get far more options with an SLR. Never used a bridge camera.
Nomad is the one who should put some stuff up on this thread though. I'm deeply jealous of some of the photos he takes. | |

I like wildlife shots.
I took an incredible one of a humpback whale just feet from the boat and one of a wedge tailed eagle eating a kangaroo. My Mrs took a great one of a Sea Eagle too.

Cool stuff. How do you get the effect of the water like that in the middle photo? Alter the exposure time on the camera?

Can be really difficult getting bargains on ebay these days. Better off looking on gumtree for a good deal, more likely to be someone getting rid of something rather than someone trying to make money. But like you say you need to know what you're looking for. Try getting advice from the shop in town, near where Barons used to be, can't remember the name always really helpful. | | | |

I've got a digital SLR but am crap at taking photos in it - its wasted on me as I spend too much time in "auto" mode and not enough using all the settings which just confuse me
Theres a bit of interest in it on here we should get a few together and learn from each other?
My digital SLR is probably 5 years old by now so a little outdated but would invest in a new one if I thought I could produce pictures like the ones in this thread (and most definitely like the ones that Nomad shoots which are just phenomenal)
