The Europa league on 19:55 - Feb 26 with 560 views1885_SFC

That's Tottenham out for another season.

Liverpool have 30-mins extra time... which should tire them nicely for the City game at the weekend.

The thing I'd get rid of is the champions league losers entering. That makes a mockery of it

The problem with the Europa League my old mucker, is there's just far too many games in it. What's the point in it being a league format at the start, where you have to play endless games against loads of teams you've never heard of. Attendances on the whole are pretty cack too until you get to the business end as most fans just don't seem to buy into it.

If it was a straight knock out competition from the start, without the Champs League rejects being chucked in later, it would definitely be more credible. I'd still love us to be in it mind.

Agreed... (though don't think I can face more Sunday matches and the SWT "Sunday service" shambles after last weekend).

Modern football's a Machiavellian business, and the Europa League increasingly looks like a means of keeping smaller teams from crashing the real cash cow - i.e the Champions League - at the expense of the old guard, with its convoluted format and parachuting of CL teams into the knockout phases (most likely to then win the EL and therefore take the pass back into the CL).

There's no precedent for any British team using the Europa League as a stepping stone to better performances domestically or in Europe (i.e. reaching the Champions League). Fulham and Middlesbrough took it seriously and were relegated not long afterwards, and Man City vaulted into the main competition directly courtesy of their dirty cash.

Thursday night games followed by Sunday games kill the appeal.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

I agree with you, Leslie. I'd like to see Everton win it this year. It clearly means a lot to them and their support in Europe this season has been fantastic.

It's a good competition with some great clubs in it but the group stages go on for too long and the Thursday night thing is a load of bullocks as well.

The original UEFA cup was a great competition, harder to win than the European cup as although the European cup was for the champions the UEFA cup would have the 3 or 4 other top clubs from the top leagues.

Part of A small, but perfectly formed nucleus of clueless c**ts bowling underarm, deludely thinking they're in the big leagues since December 2015
