The enthusiasm isnt because he is a fan or from this area, after all he has lived in the north for most of his life, the enthusiasm is because he has a track record in the football industry and a good reputation

Depends on who's giving him the 'good repuation' handle. Parslow has a track record and 'good reputation' but Liverpool fans didn't rate him that much.

I go back to my original point. Have you ever got on with a block with a moustache? This is a major negative for me ; )

One thing in his favour is that when Man City were looking to buy success with their new found wealth, John Williams was a man they turned to. And before that, Jack Walker, with similar lofty ambitions, took him to Blackburn. His key roles at City included 'overseeing player contracts and developing the club's academy structure'. He doesn't seem like the sort of CEO you'd appoint if you were looking to sell the club quickly.

Anyway, right now, there are so many rumours floating around, that this may be just another one that has no substance to it.

Poll: Who will win the Premier League this season?

As far as I'm concerned it's neither here nor there whether he's a Saints fan or not, what matters is his ability to do the job; and on the face of it he does seem like a very good fit.

Poll: If our new manager is a success, which club will he be managing in 2 years time?

When I was a kid (according to my kids last week!) All we knew were the players and the Manager's names, possibly the trainer's name. I would love it to return to this, let the back room staff be back room in the background, and let's concentrate on the real reason to follow our team, the Football.

I'm old, I'm bald and I won't be told!

When I was a kid, I thought George Reader was the club's chairman forever and that he was little more than a figurehead. He was sitting next to the Queen when we won the FA Cup. He probably had more significance than I realized at the time, as we were promoted to the top flight for the first time under his stewardship and he was the man who appointed Lawrie McMenemy.

He was quite an interesting character, having not only played for Saints but also refereed the 1950 World Cup Final in Brazil.

Enthusiasm seems to be based on fans and their local media saying hes good at his job.

Ive just twitter convo with the local BBC sport reporter up there who said he was exactly the sort of person you would want. No ego, simply gets on with the job putting the club and fans first.

I imagine once legal details are finished on Cortese, he will be appointed.

That 'tache comment sounds a very reasonable argument in the debate against the bloke who may do a better or worse job than the last incumbant ..........
