Saints go into the game against Queens Park Rangers knowing that if they win and Aston Villa beat Chelsea the club could go top, however the supporters have to remain focused to avoid a repeat of Harry Redknapp's last visit to St Mary's.
When former Saints boss Harry Redknapp last visited his former stamping ground his QPR side were heading towards relegation and Saints supporters looked forward with glee to hammering a nail in his coffin and taunting him.
However on that day in March 2013 it was Twitchy who had the last laugh as his QPR side ran out 2-1 winners against Saints despite only having 33% possession and only 3 shots on target.
QPR lived to fight another day and it has to be asked just how much of the crowds hostility towards Redknapp contributed to Rangers digging in and getting 3 unlikely points, certainly the constant abuse of Harry could not have helped the Saints cause, with the Saints supporters clearly focused on the wrong matter, it enabled Redknapp to focus his team on doing a job of work.
This Saturday we need to avoid a repeat of that day 18 months ago both on and off the pitch, we need to create an atmosphere that makes QPR cower with fear rather than rally round a central point.
The other problem is that not only do we have the hated Redknapp returning but also in his camp is another ex Saints manager who is not remembered fondly alongside him in Glenn Hoddle, so the temptation to hurl abuse at the visiting dug out is doubled.
So we need to concentrate on the task ahead and that is getting the three points in the bag early in the game and then turning the screw, then when to game is well and truly won there is plenty enough time to let Harry Redknapp know the distain he is held in, in Southampton.
Last time Harry Redknapp had the last laugh, this time lets make sure that it is us !
