Van Dijk Training Video Removed ! Could He Make A Playing Return Tonight !
Monday, 21st Aug 2017 15:31

Saints earlier posted a video on one of their social media channels that appeared to show Virgil Van Dijk training with the Saints U23 squad, but it was swiftly taken down.

Virgil Dijk is said to have taken his first steps back to getting match fit by training with the Saints U23 squad and a video on the Club's facebook page appeared to show him training, however almost as quickly as it had gone up, it was removed.

This has prompted speculation that he could play for Saints U23 side who travel to Telford this evening to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This site suggested a fortnight ago that Van Dijk could be playing for the U23's last Monday evening at St Mary's, but this did not happen in the end, a week on and the Dutch defender could be a surprise participant in the game at the Bucks Head Stadium.

As you would expect Liverpool's fan social media is already putting 2 + 2 together and making 60 million with the news that Saints are about to sign a central defender and claim that it could mean Liverpool could get Van Dijk after all, but Saints show no sign of weakening.

Liverpool have trodden even dodgier ground over the weekend with Steven Gerrard claiming that the Anfield club need to sign Van Dijk, this would have annoyed Saints in that Gerrard is a club employee of Liverpool and this could well be construed as unsettling the player.

Other reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp will not persue another target should he fail to get Van Dijk, which is strange in that you either have a £60 million sized hole in your defence or you don't.

In the meanwhile Saints fans await the next episode of this sorry story with baited breath, it is understandable why Saints may have taken down the video, they would want a low key return to training for Van Dijk, but whether it is a softening of the his position by the player who is realising that Saints will stand firm and doesn't want to be left in the cold for six months, or whether it is just Saints insisting he fulfill his contractual obligations is yet to be seen,

Huh? said to have taken his first steps back, appeared to show him training, prompted speculation, may have taken down the video, yet to be seen. Only last week Nick you said Liverpool supporters were clutching at straws! I guess if you keep posting that he's going to play for the U23s it might happen, and I hope you're right, but in the meantime sit back and have another pint. That said I think I'll head for Telford and have a quick word with bucket mouth Gerrard who is almost certainly travelling south already.

Personally I just reported what had been pointed out to me, I gave two differing reasons why it could happen, I didnt say that it meant that either of them were right or my opinion

Facinating situation actually. And the irony is that if he ever turns out for the Saints again he will need to be at the absolute top of his game to attract the attention of Dick Advocaat.

He has declared himself "ill" and perhaps someone took down the picture to avoid not looking very ill so as not to get a fine

Yeah interesting Liverpool U23 played last night. Wouldn't be suprosed if Gerrard turned up at Saints v Wolves on a scouting mission. I cant see VVD playing for that reason alone !

I'd forgive him if he did but hell didn't freeze over very often in history

Another false rumour + a 3-0 defeat thrown in for good measure...

It really is time for Hunter & Jaidi to be pensioned off. Crap last year and seemingly crap this year.

The Express is carrying spy-pics of vD training yesterday with the U23's. Could be photo shopped by the guy who posted them of course as the vD image looks like one I recall seeing before
