A little bit more in the pot for a signing or two. Good luck to Pearson. Lets hope he's as good for his next club as he was for us :) |
| Forum Thread | What exactly is our best side? at 13:47 21 Dec 2011
Every thread lately ends up talking 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-5-1, etc, and there don't seem to be too many of us who like the current set up. So, assuming we had everyone fit, what team would you put out? I'd start with: Fielding Brayford Barker Shackell Roberts Cywka Green Bryson Ward Robinson Ball Bench: Legzdins O'Brien Hendrick or Bailey (can't decide!) S Davies B Davies I can't find any room for Tyson at the minute, and I'm almost tempted to have Croft on the bench for Ben Davies. Bennett will have to wait a while, and I've got no places for Buxton, Maguire, Doyle, etc. |

| Forum Thread | Optimism at 16:00 5 Aug 2011
About this time every season I get a wave of completely unfounded optimism, so on that basis, I'm going for a Derby win tomorrow, 2-1. Even by recent standards, this seasons optimism has been particularly unfounded, but I expect by the time it gets around to kick off I'll have put a fiver on 4-0. I may also take along some pictures of the squad, otherwise I'll have no idea who I'm shouting at. |
| Forum Thread | I've changed my mind at 10:26 2 Mar 2011
All season I've been behind Nigel Clough, looking for the positives in the performances, and hoping that we'd get to the point where we at least look like a side even if we don't necessarily look like a great side. After last night's pathetic showing, I'm afraid I've given up. I can understand that we have no money. I can understand that we don't have expensive players, therefore we don't have fantastic players. I can understand that sometimes we will get beaten by better teams with better players. I can't understand putting out a side that is clueless, undrilled, unbalanced, and (at best) inept. I can't understand how having our one (average) left back injured means we have to rejig the back line again. I can't understand why we have to move our most consistent performer (Brayford) to a position he's not suited to, and stick another player at right-back who's not a right-back. I don't understand why we haven't got anyone else in the club who is a left back. The reserves have one, the U18s have one. Play a left back at left back. I can't understand why players have lost the ability to do what they are employed to do. I can't understand why Barker is half the player he was. I can't understand why Savage can play one fantastic cross field ball, and about 80-odd appalling ones. I can't understand why Bueno and Cwyka aren't at the level they were. I can't understand what possible question there could be where a reasonable answer is "Pearson". I can't understand why the "best dead-ball player outside the top two divisions" can't clear the first defender. I can't understand why you respond to going 2-0 down by taking a striker off. I can't understand being beaten (and let's be honest, 3-1 was a let off) soundly by a team like Doncaster. Nothing against them, but there not a great side, and they didn't play well. They don't have great players either. But they do look like they know what to do, even though it may sometimes not be within their ability. And there's the difference. Derby don't know what they're supposed to be doing. Hence another 90 minutes without what you'd call a proper attack. I'm half expecting Nigel to pack it in. If he'd have done that yesterday I'd have been sorry. If he does it today, I won't give a monkeys. |

I'm looking forward to Saturday now. Great result last night, and a bit of momentum behind us. Hopefully Sheff U will kick a few lumps out of Leicester tonight, and the good run can continue. |
| Forum Thread | Last Night v Boro at 12:11 29 Sep 2010
I thought we were better against Boro than in the Palace game. At 1-0 down and having missed a penalty we could have just folded. But the team never stopped trying to play, and 3-1 was probably more flattering to them than us. I though Boro would be an effective spoiling team, but they were basically outclassed. Like Saturday, I can't think of anyone that had a bad game. Brayford looks better every game, and moving to centre half last night didn't throw him at all. I think a lot of the recent improvements are down to the fact that we're finally playing someone up front who has a bit of strength about him, and can put himself about a bit. It's pushing teams further back, and letting us play further up the field. Well done the players. And well done the management. |
| Forum Thread | Movement on the Transfer Front at 14:49 27 Aug 2010
With Varney now gone for the season, can we expect anyone coming in over the next few days? Those "six strikers" we had at the start of the season look like they need re-inforcements pretty quickly. |
