I worked in Castleton as a butcher from 1963 to 1972 and Smith's was one of our customers. I delivered meat for their pies 6 mornings a week. We were one of seven butchers in the village, which was thriving at the time. It saddens me to drive through now, with all the empty shops and a useless cycle lane. I did hear a rumour that a long time staff member put in a reasonable bid to buy but was rejected. I stand corrected. |

There is a post on YouTube regarding a speech by George Galloway under the heading: Galloway goes "Glaziers Out" on the floor of Parliament. I can't post it on here, I wonder if someone can as it makes for an interesting listen and we are mentioned on a couple of occasions. |

Saw Brian recently at Cutgate Precinct. Use to go in Sweet Coffee Cafe there before it closed down. Lives or lived at Smallbridge, his was a teacher at Matthew Moss school. Seen him on the golf course at Rochdale GC. So all you Rochdale GC members on here, get into his ribs |

He was a proper gent. Played bowls with us at Broadfield Park when he was fit. Always good for a chat and a laugh. |

Alister sadly passed away this morning after a long illness. Lifelong Dale fan and Rochdale CC stalwart. Could be seen in the main stand with his oxygen tank on many occasions. RIP Alister |

And who was the woman arguing with the security staff at the players entrance? Think she made an idiot of herself, after some attention I think. |

The bowling green that was behind The Farewell Inn was not the same as Tweedales bowling green. I to use to play on there once it was closed for bowling (never remember it being used) Tweedales green was round about the area now taken by Castleton Timber. Happy innocent days indeed. |
