Indeed. Not much better than my schools under 16s teams. But fantastic opportunity for the lad. Hope he takes this chance and kicks on. Good luck to him. |

Ooh sorry sir. Had not seen any threads during this transfer window, hence why I posted it. I don't read everything on here. And it seems relevant to me, because it would mean another minimum £10 million into our bank accounts. Hence possibilities for more transfer funds now. And it's this new knowledge that there is no current release clause in January, which is interesting to me as it makes the probabilities of his transfer greater, as clubs could get Eze for way less than the previous release clause figure of £68 million. Was just opening up debate to see what others thought about possibilities of his sale this window. Had no idea there were any other threads on here recently. But yes sorry I consider myself told off.. And I am so boring !!! [Post edited 22 Jan 23:59]

| Forum Reply | Ashby injured or hooked? at 23:15 22 Jan 2025
I can't see any first team opportunities for Newcastle for Ashby. I would think if Ashby proved to be decent , we could have him as a cheaper option to sign as a permanent contract player. He is obviously rated higher than Santos, so surely we will try to push Santos out on loan or sell if possible. Ashby has moments but he is too much of a risk taker when it's not necessary. My own personal opinion is that he could have been told by Cifuentes to cut out the show passes or flashy interceptions and be more aware of where he is on the pitch and take the educated risks, not the do or die options , he regularly seems to try to do. And he could have hooked, because he had made several errors of judgement, and perhaps Cifuentes said if you keep doing this, I will take you off the pitch. Hence his frustration. Interesting management tactics, if so. But I felt he was taken off due to injury. [Post edited 22 Jan 23:19]

Definitely passing more now also. Realises it's not all on him as it has been in previous seasons. All good. |

Yes and with not being up to full speed currently but still only one game ago, despite not capitalising on a decent one on one chance himself managed to keep his composure in the same move to intelligently assist the winning goal by finding Kolli in space. So still making an impact... But you are worried about him Stainrod The phrase "FORM is temporary, CLASS is permanent " comes to mind. [Post edited 22 Jan 18:10]

Be very very surprised if this happened. Is Al Nasr a Saudi club, that's big money even for 35 year olds who have seen better days. If he was here, his salary would be miniscule by way of comparisons and it's only in the last couple of seasons that he has made any significant impact at a club since leaving ourselves more than a decade previously. Be on a par with the return of Charlie or Mr Ainsworth coming home or Sir Les in the boardroom. Never go back to an ex to rekindle old memories. Time moves on. And he is a completely different player and person now. But also goes against everything in how the club is being run right now. Zero possibilities this happens.. But rose tinted glasses can get distorted easily. Can understand. Also, the words, " had a disagreement with the club" red flags galore !!! [Post edited 22 Jan 18:01]

Other variable that might need to be considered re Edwards - is a lot of loans are signed under the provision that the loan player starts "x" number of games or makes " x" number of appearances. Which obviously we have no knowledge of those details within Edwards contract loan specifics. [Post edited 22 Jan 17:45]

Marti is not from the Ainsworth school of management ie hit them hard if they not good. Ashby was injured. Was evident. Otherwise no chance he is making that sub so late in the day. |

Ezes sale from Palace has more chance of happening in January as the release clause comes back into operation at £68 million at the end of the season. For me, I don't think he is value at £68 million, so reading between the lines, there could be more interest in him now as teams could get him at a much reduced transfer fee. Palace were very surprised no one came in for him last season and his stock was seemingly higher then also. The main stumbling block is rumours abound that Palace want to keep him and he is contracted there up and till 2027. This particular money tree, I don't think is coming our way anytime soon unfortunately. [Post edited 22 Jan 18:13]

He is our best player as proven season after season. Today, he is one of many players that can impact a game and a result. In previous years it was Ilias and if he was injured then the game changer sometimes was Willock and that was it. I think he is doing just fine. Not up to speed just yet, but nothing to worry about. He is a first team choice selection if everyone fit and if he is not completely convincing, we have options on the bench. Nothing to be worried about at all for me. If we are worried now after 13 game run of top form and results, we are always going to be worried. |

Not sure as I did the Plymouth thread Chef, then you got in early for 'Ull... I am going to put this out there - controversial I know - but my belief is, it don't mean Jack Sh*t who starts the matchday thread !! But now I have said this, all blame me for the next games reverse... |
| Forum Reply | Sir Marti of Cifuentes at 16:58 22 Jan 2025
There isn't a lot of noise involving other clubs looking at Marti, because he is not prostituting himself to all and sundry after a decent run of form. Certain previous incumbents would be sending several spurious emails spamming potential grander suitors big time by now !! |

Ok re fit and firing. Yes appreciate it's Cook and JCS, but JCS is hardly ever fit and that's the key, hence why I have him so low in the pecking order, we be better selling JCS for me, if we get a really decent offer. Age is also in the real world needs to be considered so is it likely Cook is here next season, debatable also. And then obviously who is currently ours. All in the real world need to be accounted for, in selection decisions.... [Post edited 22 Jan 16:32]

I have put Morrison as second choice and Edwards as fourth. Because he is a loan player. But from the couple of games I have seen he is an excellent ball playing centre back You can see him having a very decent career. It's about opinions, I guess. Am just going on intuition and what I have heard from those who had him all season, as well as what he is showing for us, so far. [Post edited 22 Jan 16:26]

I wasn't overally surprised by his selection for Leicester, which clearly showed the league is our only priority this season. And it's very normal for clubs at all levels to drop around half the first team for cup games. Clearly done with conserving injuries for league game availability. Maybe they were considering we have now an outside chance of the play offs. For me, going up this season would be too early. Another season with all our young guns firing and then promotion could well work the next season, so that we are sustainable for many seasons after that. Going up this season i believe we could lose a lot of our exciting new young players, ie they not premiership standard as yet. So we could boomerang and then not have our new youth brigade at the club at all at the club and be in a much worse position. I do appreciate though with a fans hat on, who would not take a play off victory. The cup defeat, we have missed an away day at Old Trafford. I guess it's only a few more games in general, but seems caution won the day. |

Which they did in the last game. There was only Ashby as defensive cover on the bench at the Hull game The best defence for us is Cook and Morrison. Edwards is better than Morrison but he is not ours, so currently would bench him. Fox has done very well and as one of our permanent players is ahead of Edwards. JCS is the one. He gets injured way too often. On his day and with no injury record, he is our classiest centre back but his injury record puts him at number 5 or even 6 centre back behind Dunne as well. So my order is 1. Cook 2. Morrison 3. Fox 4. Edwards 5. Dunne 6. JCS |

Perhaps Ashby is on a deal that we can extend his loan into a permanent deal at the end of the season. Inmy opinon the only reason Madsen and Ashby came on in the last game was to give them a confidence boost in a game the manager clearly felt we were in control of. Ashby does make mistakes and takes too many risks but has also played a few long balls that have opened up defences also, but he definitely needs to be a lot more careful. The Hollywood ball often doesn't work unless you have the abilities of a Messi, ie it's potentially disastrous, which has happened with Ashby. However, what does make me think is , that Ashby is picked consistently over Santos whom isn't even on the bench now. As far as we know Santos is the permanent squad member and Ashbys loan deal finishes at the end of the season. It would not surprise me that Ashbyn could move permanently at the end of the loan as he clearly is nowhere near the first team selections at Newcastle, even as a squad member he would below the level required, for them. What are we doing with Santos then also. Probably trying to get rid, I would assume. We need a decent utility left back that can also play on the right side and perhaps move Ashby and Santos on, but maybe they could move one of them on, not both and then perhaps a signing comes in on loan or purchase. He has a lot of confidence for me, but because of this often takes the difficult option when it's not necessary. He looks the part and has pace but he misses tackles and has a habit of trying the difficult pass that the opposition very often intercept. He went off due to injury and I think thats why the frustration. |
