"Friday night and the gates are low Looking out for a place to go Where they play the right football In the Premier league That rules Southampton out No matter how we shout We have a lousy team Quite the worst we have ever seen Hopeless team Going down like a submarine We can't score Or defend How will we ever survive We're ignored While the board Ruins our football team"...
Deep joy. I think Downes may have the makings of a footballer but Slackerjack has been a negative contribution on the field and we would be better off fielding ten men.
RM was not part of the solution. He should have gone at the end of last season. A newly promoted side would have attracted a better manager. The board hung onto him for too long. That was their fault. The favouritism shown to duff players and the exclusion of better ones was entirely is and contributed massively to the current parlous situation. There is a certain performance level below which a manager has no excuses. If you get promotion, you should be good enough to struggle through a season in the next division and work from there. RM was unable to achieve that performance level. Much as I would like to see SR run out of town for their ineptitude, their faliure to sack RM earlier does not excuse his own.
