Gene Hackman tribute
at 18:56 27 Feb 2025

My son doesn't watch old films, he reckons they're old so they must be crap.

He really does know nothing

Modern films have poor storylines, poor acting and an over reliance on CGI.

Great actors can carry a film even if it has a dodgy script.

Hackman was a great.

There is no pure blood anywhere now. Lets face it, anyone who can claim to be pure blood is probably more than a little bit inbred anyway.

But no, the whole of humanity is a bastard race by now.

Oh behave now! The USA is in more debt than the UK. Our debt to GDP is 98.5% and the USA....124% and the Congressional Budget office predicts that percentage will continue to rise.

The USA is more skint than the Uk and maybe that is why Trump has resorted to practically extorting Ukraine. Trump may only have 4 years but how do we know who is next?

AND, as I have already said, Europe (not just the EU) needs to come together.

All I see happening right now is our bills are rising for little appreciable gain in renewables.

Can't the government slow down the march to renenables so the UK tax payer isn't so hard pressed? There are oil fields around the UK that could be used so we don't have to import so much oil.

If the world is going to hell in a handcart anyway, what is the point in us paying very high costs immediately, why the desire to be first? Because the politicos want to look good. They don't care about the cost to the tax payer.

Surely it has to be investigated, that bonus? How did he earn a bonus with so many leaks and spills?

SO the UK tax payer has to suffer now for no point AND in the future.

Who can forget Popeye Doyle? He was a truly great actor.

Strange circumstances yes but best to wait til the truth comes out rather than speculate.

RIP Gene Hackman a Hollywood legend whose name will live on for a long time.

He's treating foreign governments and terrorist organisations as if they're the local kwik e mart and he's a corproate goon taking them over with financial muscle.

His moves with Ukraine and Russia, it was all about making money for the USA. We need to dump Trump, ley the USA go its own way. I didn't expect I'd say this but forget America, I'd rather be back in the EU (well a reformed EU) than trust Trump.

Don't you get tired of posting things that are clearly wrong. Even TATA didn't know they'd be closing Port Talbots furnace back in 2016.

Ineos (yes Radcliffe) themselves stated that the move to France was because of changes brought about because of Covid, nothing to do with Brexit which was 3 years earlier,

The state pension should be enough so the elderly CAn heat their homes and eat too.

What would you do with starving families, send them to the workhouse? It's a very Victorian attitude, surely not!

Increase in defence spending
at 19:25 26 Feb 2025

And our water, they are stealing our water now mind...

The idea to scrap Trident, I'm not against it. I think NATO (or now, as my preferred choice a revamped Europe only defence organisation) should have nukes and all member states pay enough in to cover that too.

I've long said we should stop spending overses aid on any country with space programs, nuclear programs and larger armed forces than us. If their people need the money then their government should be spending it there.

Our own armed forces have been underfunded for decades, I think spending should be at least at 3%

Better to try and be that yo-yo team and build slowly, including extending the stadium. It's a long term plan and firdt time around we had a really good chance if only we'd extended and got more fans tied in.

Coleman has a lot of learning to do if that's his aim.

Southampton's problem was they relied on a manager who put himself above the club, a manager who'd rather lose his way than win a different way.

JDG was obviously a good player but not as good as you claim or one of the big teams would have come looking, maybe they did and decided he wasn't all that good for all we know.

I always felt he was playing more for himself than the team, maybe it was his regularly pulling out of tackles, something that Joe and Leon never did.

Your assertion about his superiority, it is in doubt. If you are trying to say he was as good a player as DeBruyne, Siggurdson, Fernandinho or Cesc Fabregas then I have to disagree.

Even Labour voters chose Bojo over Corbyn, that says a lot.

In more Trump news,

bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y0de4wpvlo

Trump cares about nothing unless it profits the USA and keeps his image back home on the up. He's treating politics like a business deal and shafting anyone he can for a quick buck. The USa will lose friends and allies because of him, Europe will learn to do without the USA and eventually the USa will become much less relevant because people who used to be their allies will not trust them.

Here's a Voltaire quote for you,

Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

It's happened time and again in history and a few posters on here are clearly gullible enough to fa;l for absurdities.

I mean, we can all fall for them sometimes but for some people it's a regular occurrence.

Never kid yourself that Reform couldn't grow and prosper.

Just look at 1930's Germany. The Nazi's should never have gotten near power. It can happen, dangerous people make it to the top in politics...Trump...Bojo...

The other thing, politics by its nature is divisive. If any government gets 75% of the vote, what would we say? Bear in mind Putin got 75...or was it 76% and what did we think of that?

It's a sad thing to say but this site has become very hard to use. We have people openly supporting Russia, making Israel out to be the only guilty party, disparaging the UK and those posters they more or less call thick for not seeing it the same way as them.
