| News Comment | Do Southampton Cut Their Losses Now On This Season And Cash In On Kyle Walker Peters at 18:12:09
The argument that we will be relegated regardless doesn't really hold much water for me. If that was the thinking why did we sack RM at the cost of £12m when he had proven he could get us out of the championship? Its not all about the balance sheet, its about reputation as well. I'd say keep him unless we get an offer above what you would expect . For me his six months is probably worth 5m or so. No one is paying £15m. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Crystal Palace The Verdict at 02:10:15
So much better with the new manager? £12 well spent , only question is will he last the season or will Rusk get the task of shepherding us back down to the Championship. Maybe we should have saved the bedsheets to protest against the litany of VAR decisions that have robbed us points rather than flogging a dead horse. |
| News Comment | Southampton In Advanced Talks For Defender But Could This Spell The End For Walker Peters at 13:08:04
Anyone that doesn't want to be here needs to leave. We don't have a great deal of choice KWP has been a model pro in my view he has already completed one season in the championship I cant see him wanting another. A number need to be moved on. As good as Tall Paul has been in providing a target and some physicality (especially against Liverpool) he is not the striker we crave. 0 goals in 232minutes. Ogachuckwu has been given chances but has only woken up around transfer time, ABK did the opposite of KWP and sulked when a move did not materialise , I find it difficult to understand people clamouring for him to play when we have Harwood Bellis, Nathan wood, and Jan all playing well and no doubt making fewer errors now their game is simplified. We need a permanent signing in midfield and a athletic physical striker at the very least. Then we need to sort out the mess that is our full backs. KWP is our best and maybe only PL quality full back . Im honestly in the dark with charly taylor but at 31 its a risk either way |
| News Comment | Bella-Kotchap Speaks About Southampton Future at 00:46:55
Complete mercenary with absolutely no loyalty to Saints who wont be bothered if we are relegated because he will move on if we do. TBH , Jan B and now Wood seem better to me, I don't think we need him and if we can cash in we might be able to strengthen were we need to i.e Midfield and a striker over 5ft |
| News Comment | Southampton Need To Unite The Supporters With Next Manager Appointment at 11:46:02
Spray painting my focus cherry red wont turn it into a Porsche. Its looking increasing logical that we appoint someone like Hjulmand on a short term deal . Its going to be a very long season. Performances will not improve without Martin. He wasn't an idiot he just didn't have the options (player wise) to play any differently . It was really frustrating to watch but the difference was marked when we played Lallana and Onuacho. But they were both injured as despite having quality its clear that neither can cope with the physical demands of the PL. Fans are understandably frustrated that we don't get it forward earlier of cross the ball more often. But to who? Arma looked like a child next to the spurs defence. |
| News Comment | Who Is Southampton Caretaker Manager Simon Rusk at 23:32:20
So now people want the under 21 manager to come in and change the style of football in two days against the champions elect. I despair sometimes. Hopefully its just people getting on the baileys early. |
| News Comment | Southampton FC Sack Russell Martin at 23:20:55
We have a weaker team that finished bottom when the Ralf Out brigade forced the owners hand . Ralf was a decent manager who had managed to survive on scraps. Russel Martin has managed to maintain morale despite us have a maximum of 5 premiership quality players when everyone is fit. We don't even have that now , we now go into a cup tie with the youth manager in charge of a leaderless an over achieving championship side against the champions elect. Better start the Christmas drinking early because this is going to be messy |
| News Comment | Southampton Linked With Ex Danish National Team Manager at 23:14:45
I'm perplexed.. surely Klopp. Pep or at least Merino were waiting in the wings. What on earth did people expect. Potter? More chance of getting Kevin Keegan. maybe we can get Scott Quigley on Loan in January he is nearly 6ft 4... great for corners. |
| News Comment | Is Russel Martin’s Priority Southampton FC Or His Own Agenda at 10:21:34
He isn't a former player of great renowned he doesn't have the contacts that Kompany has. There is no reward for him playing how he does. The truth is that we probably got promoted a year earlier than was expected, the 3 year deal was a clause in his contract. We didn't manage to shift a load of players so we couldn't get the player we wanted . The whole thing is a mess not just RM. I genuinely don't think we have the players to play a more direct game, I mean Adam Armstrong and Cameron Archer? Tall Paul plays 1 decent game and is injured. The recruitment policy and the rigid wage structure is what is killing the club we have reverted to the Rupert Low days of buying average money for 3 average midfielders none of which are good enough for he same outlay as one decent player. The whole thing is a mess, maybe if they actually conspired more we would be in a better place |
| News Comment | Russell Martin Turns On The Fans And Players at 20:13:58
Nick you are a disgrace to be honest , he has defended players despite them simply not being good enough. Its not the 90s and we don't have a lump up front to smash it long to. Out of our best starting 11 give me 6 that would get into the starting 11 of any other PL team. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brighton The Verdict at 00:56:24
"first was down to his instructions from the manager and not his own error, he had followed the game plan." I find it perplexing that some believe that RM has asked McCarthy to roll the ball out to a player that has 3 around him. Yes he wants to play out from the back but there were other options and it was an awful decision. Keeper makes two unforced errors someone has to take responsibility. I though Lumley did OK. The disallowed goal followed by Skys suggestion that Downes shouldn't have been on the pitch is just par for the course now. Same as penalties against Liverpool not being given and them suggesting Lallana's yellow should have been a red. Survival is looking like mission impossible , but everyone needs to stick together now , some of our players are not good enough but they are OUR players. Together we stand divided we fall. UTS and RMs revolution . What a goal against Liverpool and what a goals that was disallowed against Brighton More to come hopefully |
| News Comment | Does Shea Charles Prove That Russell Martin's Player Judgement is Flawed at 11:37:42
Shea has bags of potential however its worth noting that Wednesday are 15th. We need to be realistic, RM got us promoted at the first time of asking , if you would have preferred us to stay mid table and play Shea and Edozie more that's you preference. Im getting a bit tired of this "RM is stubborn and not changing his tactics" as well. Do we have the players to play percentage hoof ball? Do we have the clinical attacking players to play on the counter? Im not sure we do |
| News Comment | Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict at 15:55:32
Stop blaming the Video Assistant the on field ref made both of these awful decisions. Stop blaming RM for the lack of goals the last decent striker we signed was Danny Ings and that was a gamble. We had a number shots , none (accepts manning's) was on target. We have two half decent central midfielders at the club , one of them was injured, our lack of depth is telling in that area. The disallowed goal made a MASSIVE difference. The home crowd where deflated when we scored and Wolves would have had nothing to defend. We have been absolutely screwed my poor decisions this season. Top managers would struggle with this side and we cant attract a top manager . So all we can do is get behind everyone at the club and enjoy us getting a result against Liverpool. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Everton The Verdict at 19:36:30
I thought the players did really well against a predictably well organised Dyche team. I'm not saying Lallana was world class but I will defend him. He lost the ball a few times, mainly because he was trying to make something progressive happen. Like his ball to Archer early on. Dibbling loses the ball too trying to beat a player or two, again those are the players that should have licence to lose the ball. As fans we cant complain about possession football and the team not being progressive enough and also complain when we try to be positive and it doesn't work out 100% of the time. Where players shouldn't have licence to miss passes is in defence. The player I wont ever agree with is Jack Stephens . He isn't good enough as a centre half and doesn't have the passing range, speed or technical ability to play at full back. Manning delivered some decent crosses from which we might have scored if any preset in the box. A word on Archer, for the first time I can remember we had two attackers going to different posts, if it wasn't for his run Armstrong would not have had the space to run into to score. I still felt that we were predictable, when will Paul get a start, I'm in no way advocating long balls smashed up from defence but from the few cameos he has had recently he can hold the ball up well and bring others into the game. He isn't Haaland but he is the closest we have and if we insist in playing like Man City we should be giving him a go. Sean Dyche may be mad to think that Bednareck should have been off while Tarkowski should't but he is an experienced Premiership manager and it was clear that he had a week to coach his team to play against our very predicable tactics. It could have gone either way, thank Ramsdale and the bar that it didnt. 3 Points - Up the League we go! |
| News Comment | Southampton V Leicester City The Preview at 11:27:28
If sports republic could find a better manager he would have been gone by now. We just need to start scoring goal and we have shown against arsenal and Ipswich that we are capable. Our expected goals are up there we just don't have the finisher , in form to punish teams. Yes , downes made a very uncharacteristic unforced error but we have been much better in defence without captain jack. All we can hope for is that one of the strikers gets a couple and confidence rises. We are not going to be launching the ball up to tall Paul any time soon. |
| News Comment | Southampton Manager Admits Striker Omission Error At Bournemouth at 18:53:42
Frustrating that after encouraging progress against Ipswich and Everton we didn't build. I RM and don't think that he is arrogant. On the contrary he isn't confident enough. No disrespect to Bournemouth but why are you trying to set up a team to specifically address how they play? What team do you try to focus on OUR strengths against. As a club we over think everything. |
