It's an interesting point. Is there anyone within the club setup (with any influence) who was around when CD was part and parcel of the Dale story around the time of our first promotion? Someone who could make that connection with him?

I ask this, because there's a multitude of fans who're very well aware of how vital he was to our success at that time, but that collective memory mightn't exist within the club itself - part of the reason why we sometimes feel as if there's a disconnect between club and fanbase

Club Advisory Board
at 18:30 14 Feb 2025

I doubt the intention is to represent the greatest number of fans and their views, as such

My take is that it'll be more of a channel for "issue resolution" - hence the reps from each home stand

There's also an 'ambassadorial' element, i.e. those involved may be expected to take the club to the fans, as well as fans to the club

That's something i was pondering too

If you'd have asked me a year or so ago whether GD was fully up to his role, i'd have been highly sceptical. He seemed nervous at forums and unable to give a straight answer to questions, for instance about the list of shareholders

Now, i'm much more inclined to take a positive view of him. Perhaps he took on a poisoned chalice after the fall of the Bottomley regime and it took a while for him to get some kind of grip on things. More recently, including at the latest forum, he's come across much more impressively. That could well be down to the support of the Ogdens and since they'd be the last people to allow anyone in such a key role to get away with substandard performance, that must give him confidence and it showed

At least we're having a proper debate on here about something football-related

Should last night's "crowd" be classified as Dale's lowest ever crowd?

Putting the keeper currently second in the pecking order (at the time) into cup fixtures has become a frequent occurrence among Premier League managers, including at the level of European competition. That's hardly something that could detract from his goal

I don't dispute he'd have been pleased to have put the ball in the net, but (having watched the highlights) his reactions upon scoring both were much more subdued than usual, having scored against an U-21 outfit

On the point of being involved in NL fixtures, it's the manager who needs to feel sharper and hungrier, having watched Hendo do what he does better than anyone at the club!

I celebrated that along with everyone else

We have to be very careful how we value goals, and those scored against a youth age group outfit just can't have the same value against those scored in a competitive first team fixture, which the Salford fixture clearly was

Maybe we should ask Hendo himself whether he thinks last night's goals should be added to his tally?

I would say so

If the Ogdens can see what we can see (and i don't doubt it) these changes will professionalise the decision-making, taking it away from the hands of anyone without solid business credentials and experience

Just as the Lancs Senior Cup goals shouldn't be included in the final tallies due to the competition not being of national status, so last night's competition shouldn't be included because it's not a competition involving the 'first teams' of all entrants

Hendo's reaction after both strikes showed how little store he set by them

The voice of the fan in the boardroom
at 09:50 11 Feb 2025

If the proposed Club Advisory Board is as inclusive as advertised, there would hardly be much point in having a main board Trust rep, or if retained, the comms from that source would be just one aspect of a much wider fan involvement

Begs the question as to whether the Trust itself woĆ¹ld dwindle in the future. If it does, it'll have served its purpose over the years, vital during the Morton House saga but more recently seeming worn out at the level of influence. The Trust chair remains vacant (unless i've missed something) as the lack of potential for any real influence was realised

It'll become the holder, the guardian as it were, of the Golden Share which might well be Its main function, whilst continuing with the other work it does away from the 'centre of power'

Others may see it differently, but that's my take

Target man on loan?
at 22:55 10 Feb 2025

The phrase that comes to mind over the last two games is "all over the place"

I doubt we'll see a target man being brought in, and don't think it'd be effective since the team aren't set up to support that type of player

Plus, if it's down to the pitch, that leaves all our away games open to tactical confusion too

The players themselves are playing, above all, as if they're confused and at the very least disempowered., scared to put an early cross in, scared to shoot and even making a run into space might seem dodgy to them if it disrupts the formation

Hmm... not really

No disrespect to Ebbsfleet, but in that case we should've been in the playoffs by three points with the absolute minimum of enterprise

You know that

And that's the real shame of it

After the Yeovil victory, there was a real surge of optimism, including by myself. I'd always had doubts about his prowess as a manager whilst wanting the best for Dale, and it looked as if he was about to prove me wrong. I'm perfectly comfortable with that, if we're moving forward as a team

Then Oldham, then today

He strode into the room at the forum, was complimented on the Yeovil tactics and win, then looks to have lost the plot

I honestly don't think the club will remotely think of changing manager, for another season and a half at least. What concerns me most is Project 5000. Comments have already been made about disillusionment and failure to even try to hang on to potential crowd growth in big games. If he loses his job at some point in the future, it'll be because the fans simply won't watch what he puts in front of them, more often than not

Any revised thoughts by those whose expectation was that Dale had the consistency to take on the top 4/5?

Games in hand count for nothing, never have done

Still expect us to make the playoffs, "make" being the operative word, but the evidence before our eyes on the pitch is we're just not ready for a push to the top

Why Do Managers See Different?
at 17:24 6 Feb 2025

Just to add, there's all the difference in the world between a targeted ball over the top to a striker hanging on the defenders shoulder to run onto (Vardy, or Mitchell against Yeovil) and just hoofing the ball expecting Mitchell to outmuscle his opponent with his back to goal (Oldham)

Great initiative

Solar panels aren't permanent fixtures, and can presumably be re-located if necessary, i.e. if the roofline of a stand was changed. I agree though, looking much more likely to be at the COA
