| Your Report | Southampton v Swansea City Your Report added by TimSaint at 15:17:10 Job done - Swans were poor and helped make us look much better than in recent games and at least we didn't look like conceding the usual 5 goals at home. Burnley will pose more of a threat in the next round, as will our next run of games in the Prem. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Swansea City Your Report added by WestSussexSaint at 12:53:11 Let’s not get too carried away given the opposition was an average Championship side. What was good to see was how the players seem to be settling with Juric’s tactics. They pressed the Swansea back line well. The interchange between our defence and midfield seemed to work as well. Although it was odd to see Bednarek or THB quite far forward at times as they tracked their striker when they dropped deep, they did so as there was cover from Aribo or Big Les so we were never shorthanded in transition. Sulimana looked engaged but maybe it’s the cynic in my that felt that his improvement was more about trying to help him court other teams. Despite his two goals I felt Dibling was pretty quiet and I think his ability to drive forward with the ball suffered from the lack of a genuine striker in front of him to create space. Overall it gives me confidence for next season. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Swansea City Your Report added by Bowlercow at 22:12:29 It's good to see a win even against 2nd class opposition The starting eleven was surprising Why start players who are likely to leave before the end of the month ? I struggled to see what formation we were playing initially because in possession it was a back four with KWP playing as a wide m/f player Out of possession it reverted to a back five I also liked the way individuals from the back line sprinted forward to intercept a long clearance to one of their forwards Modern coaches seem obsessed with playing good youngsters as wingers Dibling showed today that he can play as a central striker He has fast feet and is confident He reminded me of Alan Shearer today KS if we keep him should be allowed a free role to show of his talent He is a flare player and should be allowed to use it |

| Your Report | Southampton v Swansea City Your Report added by Bawdrip at 21:45:39 Comfortable win against a poor Swansea side missing both regular centre halves. Should have scored more but a win is a win. Burnley will be much tougher unless they play a weakened team. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Swansea City Your Report added by Avior at 20:44:20 Good result but really just reminded us that we would be competitive in the Championship. Swansea were really poor first half but lour ack of intensity and fitness let them back into it in second half. Fernandes looked very good but really the only one. Big Les and Aribo huffed and puffed but we know Premiership midfielders are quicker and more physical than Swansea. Bree must be the most passive player I have ever seen, refuses to commit or challenge or risk anything (thanks RM). Dibling is our only true class player, he has that composure and calm that all of other forwards lack see Sulemenia, Archer, Armstrong and Fernandes for details today. Still a long way from the finished product but he will be a great player for a decent team. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Swansea City Your Report added by Flamingbankers at 20:20:41 Pretty good game. Saints showed some professionalism. Juric having some influence in positioning some players in irregular positions. Sulemana played well and did his best for Sulemana and SR. Dibling played a good associative role in a right/centre forward type position with Sulemana mainly playing on the left although he scored his lob shot on the right hand side. KWP played right wing back and played well with Bree behind him. Aribo played a strange role, running up and down the left hand side and popping up wherever he was needed and it kind of worked. Most of the match he interchanged with Manning. Both had good games although they wouldn't be allowed to do that in the Prem. It was good to see Fernandes back although I thought he could have done better in some circumstances - probably a little rusty and that's to be expected. All of this seemed to work but I'm not sure it would in the Premier - I just don't think the players are capable of maintaining these roles effectively in the Prem. At least this result keeps the Martin lovers at bay for one match. |
| Your Report | Leicester City v Queens Park Rangers Your Report added by Geoff78 at 18:34:15 Impossible to know what was happening most of the time, but 2 well taken goals for Varane and Kolli, and I think Chair hit the post, but having watched the highlights Ashby was clearly at fault for the second, and Edwards didn't look great. Hopefully he'll be better for the outing. Madsen was anonymous. All the goals were sloppy including our 2 so the conditions played a part. The scoreline is very hard on Rs. We were the better team in the first half even though we were behind but Leicester were in control of much of the second as far as I could tell. Interesting to know how much Clive managed to see. In the end I was just glad to get a warm cafe. |
| Your Report | Queens Park Rangers v Luton Town Your Report added by Geoff78 at 10:02:03 A difficult game to sum up. Chances for both teams, Rs edged the first half but conceded too much space in the second. They seemed to lose confidence after the equaliser although Luton had caused problems before then. We gave the ball away too much and stopped making tackles. We were lucky to get the win, although with better finishing we could have scored 4 or 5. Frey's goal via a handball (I haven't seen the replay yet) and a freakish second suggest the football gods were on our side for once. Luton had 18 shots to our 15. Once we lost control of midfield Marti was slow with the substitutes. It was crying out for more energy and mobility up front once Frey tired and more aggression in midfield. Colback's experience was useful though he was some way off match fit. Lloyd was excellent. I'd have considered bringing him on against Watford ahead of Kolli as he has more physical presence and runs at defenders with strength, although Kolli may be more skillful. This wasn't one of our dreadful performances but not as good as the Watford game. The ref let a lot go though I thought he did for both teams so maybe even handed, but there were some incidents I'd like to see again. Hard to pick a MotM, maybe Morgan deserved it from Sky, or Dunne. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Brentford Your Report added by Bowlercow at 06:33:25 Well that game showed us why big Les,Onuachu Sulemana etc were not selected regularly by Martin Not one Saints player came out of it with any credit As for our tactics. Can anyone tell me what formation we played or what plan A or B was Ivan Juric I have found out is Italian for Nathan Jones At least under RM you could see the we were trying to play Now we just play get the ball away from me football with no interest as to where it goes or to who |
| Your Report | Southampton v Brentford Your Report added by SanMarco at 23:36:13 Embarrassing seems to be the word for the day and I can't better it for a description of that performance. Much has been said about RM but today proves that he isn't the only culprit for this fiasco of a season. Our transfer dealings in the summer were abysmal - the ownership seems to have thought that we could survive with a second division quality squad. Until we have owners who are less clueless I would suggest we might as well stay in the second division. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Brentford Your Report added by TimSaint at 20:11:51 Brentford won at a canter and didn't even need to get out of 2nd gear. Faster, Stronger, Better Set Up, Better Organised and wanted it more. We didn't turn up for the 1st half hour, but still managed to gift them the opener with a sloppy pass and after that it was just a question of how many. Piss poor defending throughout and nothing up front. My daughter said she could have played in goal for Brentford today and kept a clean sheet. Sugawara off the bench to gift the opposition a goal once again FFS. Don't know where we go from here, especially when you hear THB telling the Solent listeners that we were set up to win the game today !! |
