Losing interest.

Are Saints Fans on 09:05 - Jan 30 with 1462 viewsdirk_doone

No. Saints' league home games and away allocations are selling out. We've got as many fans going to games now as we've ever had.

There is bit of moaning from internet fans though, but they're still posting as much as ever so there's no lack of interest there either.

As a long standing Saints fan I am truly amazed how loyal our fans have been through this shit show of a season.
I think there is a positive hangover from last season and it will be interesting to see if a decent level of interest is maintained next season.
To be fair though I think we are not alone in the level of support.
Many clubs are seeing seeing decent attendances even if they are not doing too well.
It is interesting to look back about 40 years when hooliganism was rife and stadia were unsafe and old fashioned.
Some of the crowd figures then were significantly lower than they are now.

Personally I've checked out this season in terms of expecting more points - and even we go a gaol up I expect us to lose - but I still love the club and will defend the team whenever I can.

Obviously not easy to endure the ribbing given the season we're having and workmates who support Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool.

still very interested, just waiting for next season.

most have given up about 10 games ago after bournemouth game .
if saints are crap they are crap and deserve to lose which in most but not all cases they have been

what has annoyed everyone is how one sided the Referees have been and VAR has been against us all season . Everyone wants the season over . because what could have gone wrong has gone wrong this season right before the start of the season with recruitment.

It's not just internet fans that are moaning; most people are completely fed up with it, but still go week in week out because of the loyalty they have to the club. The atmosphere at both home and away games has been terrible this season as there's that resigned feeling we all know what's coming. We're just going through the motions and It's not enjoyable in the slightest.

Are you forgetting the Brentford and Forest goals that were wrongfully ruled out against us after VAR checks?

Please don’t blame the officials and VAR for the record breaking shitshow season we are having.

The fault lies at the door of the owners in their shit recruitment, failure to get rid of an out of his depth manager earlier, then employ another who can walk away at the end of the season.

I'm not losing in interest in Saints, i'm jaded and depressed by them but it's still my home city and i'll never lose that pride for it.

I am losing interest in football in general though, the whole f*cking thing is rigged, terrace culture and atmosphere's are dead or dying everywhere and the new generation of social media influencers make me wish Putin nuked us now.

yup i'm the same, it's like an abusive relationship really.

There's close to nothing left of what i loved when i started, and the bits i hate are held up as being great, or are thrown back at me by the exact people i don't want to engage with as how they're right, but yet i can't walk away from it.

Part of that is stubbornness, if i give up the geeks and plastics win, part of that is because Southampton FC mean far more to me than a game of football,

Plus of course the old maxim is true that you should never let the football get in the way of a day out at the football, and the fact it's my chance to see family and friends and have a laugh plays a huge part in why i still go

never letting 90 minutes spoil a day out with friends at the football.

Best excuse ever for geting the wench to agree to me sitting in the pub for hours, drinking cheap 'spoons cider and coming home to fall asleep with no sparkling repartee.

I bought the ST and she is adamant I will make full use of it

"the bits i hate are held up as being great"

I personally love it when, coming out of the Northam after being dicked by Newcastle, there is a booming voice on the Fan Zone microphone saying "HOW ARE WE FEELING SOOOUTHAMPTON?" like some sort of gig or nightclub DJ. As if we hadn't just been embarrassed at our own ground, again.

the gulags are everything i hate about modern football, mindless drones in replica shirts drinking sh*t beer out of plastic glasses, engaging in cringeworthy "BANTZ" and not questioning anything about the fact the club and game are rinsing them dry and only see them as wallets to be drained.

This. And everything else you said in this thread to be honest.

I enjoy taking my son to Saints and chatting with him about players - it's the only enjoyment I get now from it as it's a) awful, b) full of youtube divs, c) it's just a circus act. Football as a whole, it's a circus.

Too many old boys on here moaning about the good old days.
Time moves on relentlessly.
I'm sure many of our dad's and grandads moaned about how terrible football had become in the 70s/80s/90s.

I'm sure this young generation will be doing exactly the same in 20 years time.

Yeah that's fair to an extent, though i'd say the football side has changed so dramatically in the last 10years as to make it almost unrecognisable.

When i started going in the early 80's up to even the mid 00's it wasn't THAT different.

Yeah money had come into the game and there was some new grounds (and the taylor report had killed the terraces), but mostly it was pretty similar to what it had been and the leagues were relatively competitive even without huge amounts of cash.

Now however it's more like WWE or a soap opera than football, the coverage is through the roof and everyone and their dog wants to be a social media star.

Plus to compete at the top level you need the money of a small nation, and if you don't and somehow build something it'll be ripped out under you at the first sniff of a big team.

One of my favourite things is seeing the dads and lads going to the game together, no bullsh*t, no hype, just generations following in the footsteps of those before.

Same thing with the pubs pre-games where you have 2/3+ generations of families in the same place, that's the community side of the game i love and the bit i lament the most because it's dying out.

Agree about the ridiculous amount of money that drives the big boys forever onwards and upwards , particularly the oil rich state owned clubs .
500k a week wages for Haaland is just mental.

But in 83/84 when we finished 2nd our average attendance was 18,000 with a 24,000 capacity.

We are now witnessing the likelihood of our worst season in our 140 year history yet we get 30,000 fans in a 32,000 capacity. ....football has never been more popular than it is now.

Guilty as charged.
But I must say I don't remember ever losing twice 9-0,once at home too in the 70s/80s/90s.
Cant remember ever losing 6 games in a row at home either.
Thankfully I was around to watch the heady days of Lawrie and the players he bought.
Saints are my team and always will be but I have never known it so bad as it is now.We are being routinely humiliated by teams we should not be.
