Ebere Eze for England! on 21:11 - Jun 13 by TK1 | Well, the club did sign him originally. It wasn't this message board that signed him. It wasn't a particular manager that signed him. It definitely wasn't Millwall that signed him. It was Chris Ramsey's team that got him in, Evil Les and his "gym teachers" who rebuilt him after Millwall released him. Bit like how they also brought in Chair, who may well also hopefully go for a few quid in the next months or so. No recruitment is perfect. But the worst thing QPR has done since LF became DOF is allow managers to still periodically sign players. That's where the wastage is. We're about to watch it happen again, perhaps most disastrously. The recruitment team generally buys decent players for this level, considering the price range it shops in. I now await the list of bad players QPR have signed in recent seasons. Yes, I know the names too. But I'd always trust the chances of any signing made by the recruitment department over signings recommended by individual managers. Eze is a brilliant player, and seemingly lovely person: in many ways, he's proof why Les was doing a good job (burn the heretic!), why you need a thoughtful DOF who wants to influence a club's DNA, vet and stress-test the signings (as well as scouts like Gary Penrice - signings tapered off after he was allowed to leave). Same with Chair, Dieng, Willock, Freeman, Field: there's a pattern of player there. The fact the water was so muddied by Warburton's last intake and then Beale's signings is sadly proof why it's probably time for a different DOF, someone who says no to managers signing players again. Let's see what the summer brings instead. |
Am I not mistaken but was it not Ian Holloway who alerted the club to Ebs after his stint as Millwall manager and was made aware that he had been released by them?

Good post. "DOF" has just become a knee jerk reaction to all problems, both at the club and likely in the lives of some of those who constantly bang on about it on twitter etc. Hoos also cops it when his job seems mainly to be keeping us out of further FFP problems which he has done successfully so far. But if only these two left everything would be rosy. That's before I even get to the idiots demanding the owners leave which would probably end us as a club if it happened.

Nah, he came on a week's trial because Ramsey knew his agent at Spurs as a player. It's easy to find the stories: Eze's been quoted several times about it (weirdly, despite how often people on this board want to credit Gareth for his development, he never mentions him - unsurprisingly perhaps as he only played 20 games for Wycombe). He always credits Ramsey along with Andy Impey, Paul Hall and - gasp - Les Ferdinand. Chris Ramsey is one of the best-connected, most respected development coaches in the country. He knew about Eze. Actually, there's a good piece about it here from last month. I wish all those morons sticking up clown memes could read as well. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12121543/Eze-does-series-setb

Ebere Eze for England! on 10:03 - May 25 by Hunterhoop | Yeah, I have a concern he’ll stay with Palace too. Arsenal would be the best fit but sounds like they prefer Maddison. Newcastle will likely throw money around but I’m not sure where he will play in their shape. Liverpool really could do with him if they wanted to reinvent themselves and look to the future, but if Klopp tries again to have a high press side in a 433 shape, I don’t know where he would play for him. Utd, no. City, no. Spurs? Not sure where he’ll fit in or if they’d spend the cash. Brighton? Won’t spend the money. Chelsea, good god, I hope not. Surely they have too many players already?! Who else is there? I actually think Eze would fit in and be a brilliant addition for one of the big Italian sides. And I think this would improve him too. I doubt it would happen but I think he’d suit Italian football as that creator/maestro behind the front line. |
The Italians have a beautiful word for the position you are talking about in your final sentence: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/trequartista It's derived from tre quarti, the Italian for three quarters.

My friend Beth has been a volunteer at many of the international events that have been held in England. A fellow driver at one of these mentioned that a member of his church played for Rangers & he then arranged for Ebere to meet Beth after a game. Speaking to her fellow volunteer after Eze's England call up, she asked him to pass on how proud she was (and most Rangers are) of him. The response? A personalised video message from her idol asking how she was & recalling their meeting. He made her year! Again! I can only remember Marsh & Bowles leaving the club & retaining the fans love like Eze has. [Post edited 14 Jun 2023 10:10]

Lovely story, Terry, and it goes along with quite a number of similar stories I've read about how Eze is with people. As you say very few have ever retained Rs fans' affections after moving on like this lad has. He's not only a special player but a special person too. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Right. Other than calling everyone an idiot, what would you do to change the current situation then? Because the club is drifting and apparently that's fine, we need to just let it happen, protesting will only lead to worse. Granted the owners are propping the club up financially and IMO that is the one thing that stops them from getting any sort of real flack. (As ever; I'm not talking about random cnts on twitter, I'm talking about on here amongst proper QPR fans who either currently or for a period have gone home and away) - But ultimately who is at fault for the state we're in? For me it's the owners. Ultimately. It has to be. But also - the operations, the comms, the MD.....They all play a part. So who do you think is responsible? Or should we just accept being miles behind rival clubs like Luton, Fulham, Brentford etc - Shut up and deal with it?

When the owners took over, we were a Premier League club, having taken Warnock and several key players from Palace when they went into administration. Now the only thing to celebrate is a Palace player getting an England cap. 👠

My son (who is 8 now) only saw him play three games three years ago and still talks about him now. That's pretty special to have such a profound effect on a five year old.

Good article. Joel Lynch seems to have a lot to say about Eze and the great player he was for us - did they play much together? Maybe I've just totally forgotten the recent past but didn't realise Eze and Lynch played in the same side that many times? They certainly wouldn't have done over the hectic Christmas schedule.

Lynch was in the same side as him for 1 full season before he left and the last few months under Holloway as well

Its a fair post! I don't think its new though, I have been going home and away for most of my adult life and in that time the club has lurched from one crisis to another with a rare good season thrown in to maintain the addiction. It finally felt that we had a plan under Hoos and Ferdinand, or least the signs were there and they were saying the right things, but its fair to say that it has not worked or Ferdinand has not been able to make it work from a football stance. So very surprised he has not resigned this summer or been let go by the club. One thing I would say is that the people who have made it work at the other clubs you mention rarely have those skills on their CV.
Ebere Eze for England! on 20:10 - Jun 15 with 1619 views | numptydumpty | England have been a successful side in recent years and there have been some very solid displays. We certainly have a few world class players and although currently Ebere is not that man, he has the potential to play that maverick role. An amazing goal or two and a few showcase moments could really mean he has the potential to be the X factor for the team. Would love him to set the international stage on fire, its a big big ask, but he definitely does have something that is very very rare in the game. He makes the amazingly difficult look effortless. And he glides across the pitch - again thats not seen often - for England Hoddle is the only one that springs to mind for me. But also he does live up to his name - the game looks Eze and his personality is that of a very laid back and Eze going character. Everything so far, he has taken in his stride - i think and hope he focusses on it as just another game if he is involved - odds on Ebere to score !!!!!! For once i may watch England play !!! It's great being QPR right now, isn't it? The only time we get to boast is when a Crystal Palace player is capped by England.
