Chelsea bid 50 million for Lavia on deadline day on 21:28 - Sep 3 with 2965 views | Saintsforeverj | What are the rules on buy back clauses, anyone know? Let's say Man City have a buy back clause of 40 million, but Chelsea bid 50 million? Do we get all 50 million, if City didn't want him back or if we just accepted Chelsea's offer and didn't tell City? Or would City buy him back for 40, only for Chelsea to bid 50, so City make 10 million and we make 30 million as we bought him for 10? What if another club wanted him for 35 million, not meeting City's buy back clause. Could we just sell him? [Post edited 3 Sep 2022 21:34]

Yeah well that’s the issue with them as it all depends on the contracts and ins and outs as to what they’ve signed as they can vary. As some only counts up until they’ve signed another contract (as in once they’ve renewed their contract with us, the buyback clause is removed) whilst others don’t, and it’s the same for next sale money and all that sort of stuff. As I’m sure that there’s a way around selling him in X years time if he’s worth like £80m

Presumably, if it becomes clear he is an 80 million pound player, City will just activate the buy back clause, buy him back and they will sell him for 80, making 40 million.
