Are personal plates meant as a smug sense of self satisfaction or to impress other road users.
Why would anyone be impressed with a plate that resembles part of a name.
Maybe ,instead of paying for a plate , the money should be given to a charity instead. It would be of more use.
I think it's a particular British quirk that makes some buy a plate with a different jumble of numbers and letters. | |

My neighbour, a long time ago (a former top policeman) bought something like "P10 LET" but the screw to hold it on made the 0 look like a G. It showed a decent sense of humour, I thought. | |
