Two Southampton Youngsters Subject To Deadline Day Bids Friday, 30th Aug 2024 14:33 Whereas most of the focus today has been on big name signings, Saints have apparently received approaches for the signing of two of our younger squad members, read on for more details. The two players in question are Sam Edozie & Jayden Meghoma. Sheffield united are said to have put in a bid for Edozie, but the nature of that bid whether permanent or a full transfer or for that matter any fee involved has not been revealed. It is not clear either whether Southampton are open to negotiation or turned it down flat. Looking certain to happen though is the move to Brentford for Jayden Meghoma as reported by eplindex.com They say that the young left back is already undergoing a medical at Brentford and that when completed it will seal a move that could be worth £10 million to Southampton including add ons. As David Ornstein of the Athletic is quoted in the article: " Meghoma’s move to Brentford is set against the backdrop of Southampton’s current surplus in the left-back position, with players like Ryan Manning, Charlie Taylor, and Juan Larios ahead in the pecking order. This situation has likely facilitated Brentford’s approach, offering Meghoma a clearer pathway to first-team football—a crucial factor for any young player’s development." So it seems that for Meghoma it is about nothing other than getting a shot at first team football and at Southampton he will not get that, in addition to the 3 players mentioned by Ornstein, there is also Jack Stephens and Kyle Walker Peters who is playing in that position currently. It is a move that Saints can afford to make, rake in some cash now whilst they have plenty of other options. The same cannot be said of Sam Edozie moving to Sheffield United, whilst he hasn't exactly set the world alight at St mary's, he is still a reasonable option in a squad where there are at the moment few other options of out and out wingers.
