Saints Agree Deal With West Ham United For Flynn Downes Monday, 15th Jul 2024 16:14 It's the news that all Southampton fans will be glad to hear, the club have come to an agreement with West Ham for the permanent transfer of Flynn Downes after his loan spell last season and he will undergo a medical imminently.
Flynn Downes was a key player in the promotion campaign of 2023/24 and now he is set to rejoin Saints on a permanent basis, according to givemesport.com
They say that the two clubs have now reached an agreement and the midfielder is now going to have a medical in Southampton, the fee has not yet been revealed, but it is believed to be somewhere between £15-18 million.
Downes will be the 7th summer signing for Russell Martin and it is hoped that the 8th won't be far behind with another loanee Ryan Fraser also making his loan spell permanent.

Fantastic! A sense of relief, assuming that is he passes his medical. If we sign Ramsdale in some way then the defensive side of our recruitment is pretty much done. All looks to be good business so far, fingers crossed we get some of our first choice attackers and not lose out to rivals. Any rumours about Broja still around?

That’s good news. Well done Saints. Now for another CM, a GK and a CF that can continue to strengthen our starting XI for the PL.

The Athletic are reporting a deal worth £18m but no details on how much of that is upfront and how much is performance related or if there is a sell on clause. Also confirmed that the Downes deal is independent of any potential deal for KWP so remains to be seen if he does now leave. I expect the club are pretty relaxed now they have Sugawara in the building.

Would like to see Broja back, Colburn. Ramsdale as GK would be brilliant too. Good shouts those 👍🏻. Just read Saints have signed a shirt sponsorship deal with Rollbit, a crypto gambling firm. If true, very disappointing and another immoral financial decision after Sportsbet.IO. All about the spondoolies eh

This is a deal that will please Russell Martin most of all and he can plan more precisely what his " new look side " will look like. No problem at club level as FD is a player who fits the Russball style of play , and seems well-liked by other players and fans alike. The real question will be ....can he rise to the required Prem. level to hold his own ?

Great news :-) I'm a bit intrigued at the need for a medical, surely he had one last summer before joining on loan, and has been us ever since?

WanderingSaint - all PL players are insured against career ending injuries by companies like Pro Secure and as this is a new contract and therefore a new policy you simply would not get the insurance without a medical even though FD was here last season and It is highly unlikely anything has changed it will still have to happen.

Medical probably needed for Insurance reasons. Who knows he could have picked up an injury on holiday, pre season training with West Ham or even put his back out reaching The Expert Level of Karma Sutra positions with his missus 😂

Hopefully he will shine in the PL like he did in the Championship. Great move for everyone.
