Danny Ings Could Be Making A Shock Return To St Mary's
Thursday, 20th Jul 2023 12:06

West Ham United are having a clear out as they revamp their squad and reports say that two ex Southampton stars are on their way out, with a third potentially coming the door marked in !

According to westhamzone.com who are quoting Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers are shipping out both Danny Ings and Mikail Antonio and looking to bring in Armando Broja from Chelsea.

Ings has not exactly been a success at The London Stadium after a similar flop as Aston Villa, Ings managed just 2 goals for the Hammers in 7 starts and 10 sub appearances after joining the club in January from Aston Villa for £12 million.

No with Ings turning 31 in 3 days time, West Ham are looking to offload him to free up space for Armando Broja, Ings price will be far less than the £12 million that the Hammers gambled when they signed him, but his wages could be a problem for Saints.

The former Saints hero signed a 2 1/2 year deal when he joined West Ham and I would imagine he would not be keen to take a pay cut for the next 2 years.

Mikhail Antonio would perhaps better suit what Saints are looking for from a striker, but he is being linked with a move to Quatar and Al Ettifaq FC, so Saints are unlikely to be able to compete with his wages that the Quataris can offer, although his contract is due up in 2024.

Both players might struggle to find a club in the Premier League for the coming season, hence Danny Ings being liked with a return to St Mary's.

this is just pure paper talk and never going to happen. his agent is clearly trying to get a few of the lower prem teams to jump before he "potentially" signs for saints again.

its a shame as with him in our team we were doing well and had he stayed he would have been a local hero and who knows we may have still been in the prem and looking up instead of down. its a move that worked for neither the player or the team.

as for Broja, good luck to him and WHU, i cant see that he is an improvement on Ings and believe that its not the magic answer that they are looking for. he has hardly set the prem alight with goals and lets face it, if he was any good Chelsea would be keeping hold of him.

More rumours from Ugly Inside, getting worse than the popular media. Wasn’t there an article last week saying ‘Southampton Need The Rumours to Stop?’. Report facts not rumours.

Left us for more money, so is hardly likely to drop a league and give up several years of a higher paying contract to comeback.

He'll sit on the bench and aim to be a 'super sub' - which given his susceptibility to injury is probably the best option for him.

If he is going to an ex club why not Burnley?? He won't want to play in the second division .

With well over 100m guaranteed from the the known outgoings I would like to see us bringing in the experience that we need for this division SOON.

Might be truth in the rumour, heard he's had a severe hair cut and wants to reinvent the Milton Boot Boys.
