Southampton Weekend Transfer Update ! Sunday, 13th Jun 2021 09:20 What's been happening around Saints in the transfer market this weekend ? find out all the latest news and gossip in our weekend roundup, with Angus Gunn looking set to be the first deal of the Saints transfer window, but with a new twist to the saga.
Angus Gunn looked set to join Norwich City after a few was agreed with the Canaries said to be £5 million and then add ons that could in theory at least see Saints recoup most of the £12 million originally paid to Manchester City to buy the keeper.
But Leeds United now seem to have come into the frame and look set to try and hijack the deal, however the move might not appeal to Gunn himself given not only his connections to Norwich but the fact he is far more likely to be first choice at Carrow Road than Elland Road.
Another big question is whether Takumi Minamino will return to Southampton, The Japanese FA has confirmed that the player is being withdrawn from their World Cup qualifiers squad to face Kyrgyzstan on the 15th of June and Yahoo! News Japan reports that he has been withdrawn to sort his future out at Liverpool.
The first question will be whether he has a future at Anfield and then that will decide whether any move will be permanent or another loan.
Saints are said to be interested in bringing Minamino back to St Mary's.
A new name linked is Matt Grimes of Swansea City, however he is primarily a central midfielder and you have to question whether Saints name being in the frame is no more than agent talk due to our plethora of talent in that area of the field.
The club are also said to be still in talks to sign Romain Perraud from Stad Brest to replace Ryan Bertrand and Ralph Hasenhuttl is said to be looking to revamp his defence during the summer.
But if Perraud doesn't sign then other options are also being looked at including Brandon Williams of Manchester United.
In defence it seems that Jannik Vestergaard could have played his last game for the club, he has just a year left on his contract and although he has been offered a new deal, it hasn't been accepted and you have the feeling that the ideal situation would be that Vestergaard has a good Euros campaign and that they could get somewhere around £20 million for the Dane, that would be a good boost to a limited transfer kitty.
The news on Danny Ings has not changed and the rumour mill is suggesting that Ings is happy to stay at the club and will sign a new deal as long as one of the truly big clubs don't come in for him. West Ham are believed to have made tentative moves to both the player and the club, but Ings is said to not be interested in a move to the Hammers, if he goes than it has to be to a club that is very much a step up from Saints and although they are in the Europa League next season, West Ham do not offer much more of a chance of glory than staying at Southampton.
James Ward Prowse's rumoured move to Aston Villa seems to have also gone quiet and again it seems that if JWP is to move then it would need to be to a club that has a real chance of winning something, I was also very pleased to receive an e mail from James Ward Prowse himself thanking me for renewing my season ticket, a very personal touch from the midfielder although surprisingly he hasn't answered my reply back to him yet.
But as always this is the phoney transfer window, no one moves before July 1st when they get their annual loyalty bonus and then loyalty strangely goes straight out of the window.

I don’t understand why you start a rumor , which gets me thinking positive thoughts , and looking up and reading about who you have mentioned and then it’s never mentioned again …. I looked up and watched so many videos of Ryan Christie from Celtic , who in his videos looked pure class and scored some world class goals …. Give them Elyounoussi & they are looking for a goal keeper so give them Fraser Forrester and just get the swap deal done … Today’s transfer rumor is a big striker from Boavista Alberth Ellis …. He looks a decent player but I doubt wether we will be updated about him any further … your putting false hope & dreams out on this site … I think you make it up yourself or taking a few quid from agents to start rumors that are #BULLS..T ….. If your going to state possibility’s then keep us regularly updated on them please …

That's a bit harsh kohsamui Saint. These are just reports of reports, merely an update on the overall media stories. When things go quiet, it isn't always a bad sign. We have always tried to do our business quietly, unlike Spurs who try to upset players via the media when they want to buy them.

Just a thought, there is no way Gunn will be no.1 at Norwich . Tim Krul has that spot nailed on, Gunn would be back up for injury or cup run. Krul is 33 and in his peak, Gunn though much loved will be for the future, which is what I thought he was meant to be for replacing McCarthy ?

" Spot the transfer target " is becoming an increasingly difficult game now, Nick. I've lost count (more than 20) of the names who have been "linked to Saints ". But then again those people who run websites and blogs must have to have something to write about - don't they ?..and in truth many of them probably haven't ever been scouted by a Saints man. As I mentioned previously, we will probably end up signing some who very few people have ever heard of, let alone learning to spell their names. However, there are a few things that really annoy me amongst all this Fake News and rumour-mongering is such headlines as : "Saints looking to sign a *****'s target"... as if another club has some Divine Right to sign a certain player.... and we gazump them. Let's face it - If we sign "player A" and another club (regardless of who they are) miss out it's their fault and why are we are expected " to shoulder the blame " for pinching him. IF ...they were that keen and did their job, they'd have done a deal long before us. An irritating comment (such as the valuation of a player in a suppose transfer), is also ridiculous . Anyone wanting to buy Danny Ings should know that Liverpool have a sell-on clause in the original deal and that should be taken into account IF / when he is transferred, AND why JWP would ever consider a move to VIlla is beyond me and the idea of a fee of £27 million wouldn't buy his left boot in my estimation, let alone his right. Th entire process of "naming " someone who "a former player" thinks is perfect for "Club X" is totally ridiculous coming from someone who likely has a double-digit IQ and never won anything with any club in his career. Are we supposed to take them more seriously?

Underweststand, the reason they write this tripe is because its click bait and garners advertising revenue. This is the main problem, the money comes from conning readers into opening the article with a headline. The cheapness of today's society..

I really do despair at you Nick! JV doesn't sign a new contract whilst still having a year to go on his old one = he’s played his last game for the Saints? If that’s impeccable logic, then two and two definitely makes five! FFS, why should he sign a new contract right now when hanging on a bit might get him a bit more dosh (cf Danny Ings)? And yes perhaps some attraction from other clubs to boot. But history shows without question that contracts signed on the back of a good Euros/WC performance almost invariably end in tears, so buying clubs are increasingly wary. But that won’t stop Jannek’s agent from continuing to persuade him that the grass is a bit more honeydew on the other side of the M27. IT’S CALLED NEGOTIATING!!! Yes another top quality rumour with a massive set of cojones attached…!

Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t.
