Hughes Glad He Took The Risk
Tuesday, 12th Jun 2018 13:59

Mark Hughes has spoken about how it was a big risk to him to come to Saints but he is glad that he took it !

Speaking on the club's official website Hughes has talked about how he came to join the club, the motional ties he had to him that drew him back and the decisions he had to take and why he is glad he did.

“It was high risk, if I’m honest, in terms of my position, It could’ve gone poorly, but I wasn’t really thinking about that."

“It was a different situation and a difficult decision on a few levels.

“I’d just left one position to go into another situation where it could’ve gone in a different way, and the club may well have had a different result at the end of the season, which nobody wanted.

“But it was a club I had played for and I just felt I’d be able to help them with the difficult situation they found themselves in.

“I think that certainly helped, and it was a key part of my decision when I decided to take up the offer to come in when I did. Thankfully, we all came together and I really enjoyed it.

“I felt there was a real sense of what I experienced as a player when we were in difficult circumstances during my time here: everybody pulled together and tried to go in the right direction to get us out of the situation, and that’s exactly what happened.”

Of course, before pocketing the inevitable "Saviour bonus " he had obviously negotiated before taking the job , Mark Hughes & Co. must have considered what two relegations might have looked like on his CV if Saints had also been relegated.
Would he have gone into the Guiness Book of Records as the only football manager to have presided over the relegation of TWO Premiership clubs in the same season?

As it was it all came out in the wash OK...but he must be looking forward to the new season, especially after having stated (in an early interview) that he had wanted to sign one of two Saints players to bolster his (then) failing Stoke side.

Now all we need is some of the attacking flair he generated in his own playing days (less all those yellow cards) ...to be translated into the Saints squad next season.
Although we were all disappointed at the final result of the Chelsea game, I feel sure we were also encouraged by our excellent performance ....in the first 70 minutes.
Let's hope we can learn how to "win " a game ...and also (then) how NOT to lose it .

I can think the Board will try to sign him one ..or two of his former Stoke players, plus some of those both he and "the Black Box " may have admired from afar in past seasons.

I think he has taken the biggest risk already, now he has a chance to turn in into gold.

Dear SaintBrock, are you the most negative man in the world? For Gods sake cheer up and give Hughes a chance. He only took the money he was offered.

Wish we would get something done in the transfer market getting nervous as everyone else around us seem to be getting there's in already, hopefully we don't miss out again.
