Saints Guaranteed At Least A 7th Place Finish
Sunday, 17th May 2015 15:34

Whats the story Yaya Toure ! Manchester City overcame a Swansea City fightback to win at Swansea City and in doing so guaranteed Saints top 7 finish.

Stage One of Saints end of season finale was achieved yesterday when Saints beat Aston Villa, stage two was completed this afternoon in South Wales when Manchester City beat Swansea City 4-2 to mean that the Swans can not overhaul Saints for 7th place whatever happens on the final day next weekend.

It was a far from convincing display from City though and they took a 2-0 lead on 36 minutes looking like they had little interest in the game, it looked like being that score at half time until on the stroke of the break Sigurdsson fired in for the home side.

Swansea equalised through Gomis on 64 minutes and at this point Saints fans nerves were jangling, they were settled a little on 74 minutes when Yaya Toure hit his second to restore City's lead, but the game was still far from over and although City looked good going forward, in defence they were slack and twice Joe hart had to pull off saves from free headers, the first of those stops was World Class.

But Swansea couldnt take advantage of City's poor marking in the final ten minutes and as the game headed towards the 90 minute mark the nerves were starting to calm again, the ex Swan Wilfried Bony ironically made sure of the game in the 90th minute to make it 4-2 and even though there were 5 minutes of injury time Swansea were never going to get the 3 goals needed to make it a nervy last day for Saints.

So now we come to stage three and that is going to be played out at the Etihad, Goodison Park and The Brittannia Stadium and by 5pm on Sunday two of either Liverpool Spurs or Saints will be safely in the Europa league and one will be going to stage four and that will be praying for an Arsenal win over Aston Villa in the cup final.

We could have done even better than the current 60 points. We threw away well over three games that we lost when we should have won. With at least 9 of those points we would be battling for a CL spot. If we can keep all the current squad and add a Charlie Austin to team up with the forward line we have and strengthen mid field a back line with two more players we will be dynamite next year. Need a back up for Forster too, but PG has done pretty well last two games. Our youth are getting stronger too. I have no doubt that within 5 years we will be there.
