Ticket, coach and train details for the trip to Old Trafford next month.

Ground Name: Old Trafford

Capacity: 76 100 (all seated)

Address: Sir Matt Busby Way, Manchester, M16 0RA

Main Telephone No: 0870 442 1994

Ticket Office: 0870 442 1999

By Car

M6 for this one up to Junction 19 and then the A556 towards Altrincham and A56 towards Manchester until the ground appears. You’re unlikely to be able to get very close to it with the parking restrictions and road closures. It's 193 miles from Loftus Road , four hours give or take allowing for traffic.

Parking

It’s been a while since were last here but the parking situation hasn’t changed much – lots of little private car parks at businesses and factories. The Old Trafford cricket ground charges a fiver, but the Salford Lowry Mill came highly recommended by my Mum who parked there for the Rugby League Grand Final a couple of years ago and paid £3. Alternatively you can park at the end of the tram lines at Altrincham and Eccles and get a tram to the ground from there.

Train

It remains a mystery to me how Virgin Trains managed to get more than 100,000 of their passengers to sign a petition asking for them to keep their franchise when it came under threat from an outlandish bid by First Group. Their practice on Manchester United matchdays of charging a flat £64 single fee back to London after the game, even if booked many months in advance, is absolutely scandalous and should not be allowed. Here we are still six weeks away from the day of travel and the cheapest it can be done direct from Euston is the £74.20 off peak return fare and frankly Branson you can stick that right up your hairy arse.

There are tricks to getting round this thankfully. Try the 08.03 or 10.03 East Coast services to Leeds with a journey time of 2 hours 23 minutes and a single ticket price of £21.95. Return at 20.05 (arrives 22.29) for £13 and pay the £16 return fare between Leeds and Manchester with a 50 minute journey time to knock 25 notes off the price for a start. We booked the Leeds route early and consequently got returns for £20.

The main Manchester stations are not walkable for Old Trafford so get the tram to either Pamona or Exchange Quay on the Eccles branch or Old Trafford on the Altrincham line. A warning for after the match – trams are usually so full they don’t stop at Pamona so Exchange Quay maybe a better bet.

Coach

The official club coach leaves Loftus Road at 8am and Target Roundabout at 8.30am priced £32 adults, £21 seniors and young adults and £19 juniors with the usual discount for season ticket holders.

Tickets

First and foremost it must be pointed out and repeated that at this match last year the QPR fans were subjected to the most over-the-top Nazi-like stewarding operation I’ve seen at a football match for many a year. Sit quietly, say nothing, do not cheer, do not chant, do not enjoy yourself, just do nothing, nothing at all, or risk being beaten up and literally thrown out of the ground by United’s hired scum in yellow jackets.

If you’re willing to abide by that code then we have 1,400 tickets in the corner priced £45 adults, £35.50 18-20s, £26 for 16 to 17 year olds and seniors and £17 under 16s. Rangers have 12 free wheelchair spaces and two ambulant disabled seats at the above concessions with a free carer. Tickets are on sale to 170 loyalty point from tomorrow, 140 points from Wednesday, 100 from Thursday and 30 loyalty points on Friday. General sale will follow if any remain.
