‘Every record had been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture had been repainted, every statue and street building had been renamed, every date had been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right'. George Orwell -1984. |

Agreed. My wife works in a GP surgery and all care home deaths are currently being put down to COVID19. They have a number of care homes on their patch and the number of deaths they come into on a normal Monday morning is always into double figures. The care home deaths since the virus hit need to be compared against the average normal weekly deaths. |

Send him down to Romsey, we’ll have him. I assume Caroline Nokes will not be standing bearing in mind she lost the Whip because she voted against his deal. |

Ian, if anyone has overstepped the mark its John Bercow. He is supposed to be non-political and neutral when he has consistently demonstrated he is anything but. I thought the Labour knives were out for him after the bullying claims last year. That appears to have been quietly swept under the carpet since he nailed his colours to the remainer mast!! By the way I voted Remain but given the option again I would vote Leave. |

I'm not ITK but I read somewhere that he came back overweight and was sent to train with the U23s (the naughty step). As he's got a new contract I assume he's been a good boy, worked hard, got the extra pounds off and has been allowed back to the top table. [Post edited 22 Jul 2019 8:51]

Ref the first Brighton goal. To give the CBs a bit of slack, firstly it was a unneccessary foul to give away on the touchline (Redmond?) And secondly McCarthy’s starting position was on the edge of the six yard box about 2 steps from where the Brighton CB was when he headed the ball. Why did he go back when the kick was taken instead of catching or punching it? |

What worries me more than permanently struggling in the Prem (lets face it we did that for years) but its the implications of going down. Do we do what we did last time and go sh1t or bust to get back up while we have parachute payments or do we try to adjust to being able to survive in the Championship long term. There are so many more wannabees with cash there now than when we got promoted last that it is much harder to get out. We are now set up as a Prem club with costs to match. You can have players on relegation clauses and make people redundant but I doubt Staplewood is sustainable in the Championship. So i would assume that its worth nothing if we can't afford it, unless Bournemouth fancied it or we could get planning permission to build houses. I fear we would end up struggling there or, worse still, dropping through to League 1 and potentially staying there for years until all our Prem debts were cleared and we got back on a stable financial base to start to rebuild all over again. The financial gap now is so huge (and still growing) that I fear for the viability for any club that drops out of the EPL and doesn't get back up before the parachute payments stop. He certainly isn't Mr Ego. I queued up behind him in Decathlon on Sunday afternoon. He was in training gear and a cycle helmet. He had to wait for the cloud burst to stop before he cycled away on his MTB. I assume he lives in Ocean Village with half the rest of the team. |

What power do we have? How about every fan of all the clubs outside the elite top 6 cancelling their Sky and BT Sport subscriptions? Isn’t the root of all the problems in football these days the obscene sums of money provided by the TV revenues? |

Sorry Grumpy, I'm 150% with Buggalugs on this. Keep the b@st@rd in the stands and send out a message to the World that things have changed at Southampton FC and we are now in a financial position to call the shots. At £100k per week, thats 'only' £2.5m until the Jan window which is peanuts. We can review then. Even if we sell then, the message has been well and truly delivered. I'd be up for letting him sit twiddling his thumbs for a year so that he missed the World Cup. That would be £5m well invested in my view. I'm not sure how you see our potential as 'enormous' as i never see plastics choosing us over the usual suspects. We aren't a huge city and if we haven't picked up all the extra support from the rest of Hampshire and the surrounding counties in the great PL years we have recently had then i don't see that happening in the future. We need to be a sustainable club i.e. we won't go bust or languish in Leagues 1 or 2 for years if we drop out the PL, so I'm 100% behind the board as we mustn't go back to the one trick ponies we had with Wilde, Crouch and their cowboy board! We were lucky that time with Markus waiting in the wings, but we couldn't be that lucky twice! |

Just an observation on foreign workers and the the NHS. My mum's been in the General for the last 2 weeks and I would estimate that at tops the %age of her British nurses at 25%. The others are Indian (from India not Derby road coz I know the accent), Philippines and Spain. I recall that was a key point that the remain side made about an out vote. I do take the opportunity to ask all the Wrinks I know who voted out who they think will be wiping their arses when they're in a care home coz the Brits won't do it? Or perhaps they will if they're the only jobs left? |

Just thinking....what will Brexit do to the EPL? I assume managers & players will have to meet whatever new 'green card' rules we bring in for immigrants wanting to work in England. Given that Brexit is all about immigration I am assuming that it will be MUCH tougher for all foreigners to get work permits so could it lead to the EPL falling dramatically down the 'best leagues in the world list' and therefore seriously impacting TV deals and the value of clubs. Now wouldn't that be a shame! |
| Forum Reply | Tyro League (an oldie but a goody) - who did you play for? at 21:21 22 Apr 2016
I played for one of the original 4 teams, Waltham Rovers. There were also Taranto Terriers, Sky Blues (graham roberts) and Bramley boys (graham baker). Us and Taranto played by the Witches Hat at the Sports Centre. The dads made the goalposts and we carried them across to the sportie. That was in 1966 and after the Fred Goater holiday sixes Brendon Bombers (later Brendon Boys) joined as well. If I remember right Tommy chant (senior) of Taranto and probably Tony Witt of Brendon got the league started. When Waltham Rovers folded I played for Brendon. |
