Sensational in W12, stuttering since, Boro sweat the top six - Oppo Profile

If Boro miss out on the playoffs this season, I could see them getting rid of Carrick and trying to get Cifuentes (assuming Rohl is Saints bound as rumoured).

From one of the oppo fans:
"The players we brought in, they’ve been, in a word: meh. Morgan Whittaker has been getting there, and Mark Travers is an upgrade on Dieng and Glover, but between Ryan Giles, Samuel Iling-Junior, George Edmundson and Kelechi Iheancho, all I have for you is a shrug of the shoulders. "

They spend £7 mil on one player, Whittaker, along with 2 premier league loans, a loan from Sevilla (Iheancho) who has 150 premier league appearances and Ryan Giles who has nearly 150 games in Championship/Premier League and they are underwhelmed. Have they looked at our transfer dealings???

I think it's just the way football and contracts are going. Lots of clubs seem to have a big turnover of players in the summer

It's interesting that those fouls at corners don't seem to be given as pens yet the contact from Colback was much less, was given. Maybe it wouldn't have been given if it had been from a corner.

Small margins (again)

There is an article on the BBC website which talks about the advantages India had in this tournament - it mentions that New Zealand covered more than 7,000km travelling to matches, while India stayed in the same hotel and played at the same ground. When travel, fatigue and recovery time can play a huge part in elite sport, this gave India a big advantage. If they had been the hosts then fair enough but they weren't.

It seems ridiculous that the tournament was supposed to be hosted in one country but a semi-final and the final didn't take place there.

I completely understand that India have some outstanding players and would have been the favourites to win any way, but to give them such an advantage seems unfair and, in my opinion, undermines the sport.

Ten-man Baggies latest to trap QPR in low block ball-ache – Report
at 09:49 10 Mar 2025

I thought Saito did well initially but towards the end, maybe as he tired, West Brom just blocked him off. Having said that, he must have been our most fouled player, Furlomg had a couple of goes at him before his red card and Bartley got booked for a challenge on Saito. I also thought at the game that Holgate's card was for a foul of Saito but in the report Clive says his booking was for kicking the ball away.

Agree on Cook - took too much time on the ball and then blamed others when he got charged down.

On Colback's booking, when watching it live, I thought he kept up with their player who just seemed to fall over/dive as they got to the box to try to win a penalty. I didn't even think it was a free kick.

Marti did day in his post-match that Smyth has been carrying an injury (groin I think) which was the same as Lloyd, which is why they both did a half each.

I thought the same about the ref in those first few minutes. Surprised he actually issued the red card although wonder if he got an assistance from the 4th official who probably had a good view.

I thought after his performance at Hull, he had shown he was developing well but since then he's gone backwards a little bit. Agree with others that he really needs a good loan at League One/Two level where he starts every week, to help him develop or at least find his level.

I thought the same - just lacked that little bit of quality and composure inside the box or a player being in the right position to a few balls that Jimmy headed back into the centre of the box - maybe a fit Frey or Kolli would have picked one of them up.

Thought our fans on the whole were great - sang all the way through the game, very loud! Heard a couple of grumbles walking away from the ground after the game but I think the fact that the team got a good reaction at the end from most of our fans showed we appreciated their efforts. Small margins again, just going against us at the moment.

Thought West Brom would have been better - they created nothing really. Their tactics in the 2nd half was to ensure as much time was wasted as possible.

Ref was poor yesterday - never in control of the game and guessed at a lot of decisions mostly in favour of West Brom. Any tiny bit of contact was a free kick to them whereas was had players pulled to the ground but he waved play-on.

The whole goal keeper farce was unbelievable - ref should have just told him to play on while they went to get his boot, if there was a genuine issue with it (I doubt there was).

On Holgate, he knew once he had been booked that he could do what he wanted too, as the ref didn't have the b@lls to issue a 2nd yellow with West Brom already down to 10.

"Ludicrous to blame the ref, think they’re getting sick to death of featherweight footballers tumbling about at every even half hearted challenge. "

The issue I have is that the ref wasn't consistent - SU player tumbles over, free kick, Rangers player does the same, play on.

Quality of finishing made the difference - ref bottled sending Choudhury off for that foul on Saito - definitely should have been a 2nd yellow. Also, gave them all the decisions where he wasn't sure and in the last 20 mins, every time they hit the floor, it was a free kick.

Decent performance from us and deserved to get something out of the game.
