Understandable that both he and the team improved once Ronnie moved to CB. CB is his natural position and he's able to beat the press with incisive passing through the lines, something Fox doesn't have in his locker. |

As a general rule, a club like ours has to find a delicate balance between developing players in order to generate a profit and staying competitive on the pitch. Hence, it can be difficult to gauge exactly when to sell a player. However, what you and some others appear to be missing is that the player himself does have a choice in all of this. If he chooses to run down his contract, then there is very little that the club can do other than continue to try and convince him to renew or sell for whatever they can get. If Jimmy stays, wonderful, but if does go for £2m, then that's reasonable business for a player with less than 6 months remaining on his current contract. Making vague comparisons with other players is pretty meaningless as transfer fees depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to age, experience, talent, position, level of interest from other clubs, and duration of contract remaining. If you must make comparisons then at least get it straight. The person who you allegedly "met the other day" may well be a "jolly nice chap" but the centre-back who left Hull last summer to join Ipswich is Jacob GREAVES not Reeves. [Post edited 1 Feb 21:06]

Why would it be a surprise? Footballers come and footballers go. The days of Mr. <insert club> are well behind us. Any football player worth his salt has ambition to play at the highest level possible. Aside from higher wages, Sheffield United can offer the chance to play at the top end of the Championship and the possibility of PL football. If Jimmy were to take his opportunity, that could open up the door to more caps for his country. Playing football is a short career and, at 27, Jimmy may not get another shot. Naturally, I hope he stays but I'm also realistic enough to recognise the reality of what's on offer. After serving QPR admirably for 4 years, Jimmy has earned the right to consider his options. |

A scrappy affair which suited Millwall and the way they play better. Too much upheaval, on and off the pitch, contributed to a largely disjointed performance. The absence of Jimmy led to Ronnie covering at RB which, in turn, resulted in a Cook/Fox central defensive partnership that lacks pace and creativity. As neither are incisive passers of the ball more often than not the ball out of defence was long. If Ronnie is to continue at RB then we need Morisson or JCS to return alongside Cook to inject some pace and passing ability that can beat the press and break lines. [Post edited 1 Feb 17:42]

This. It takes two to tango and both must be willing and able to dance. Some folk appear to think that if a player doesn't sign then the only reasonable explanation is that the club simply allowed him to walk. Whilst that is one possibility, there are a myriad of others for why contract negotiations fail. |

In terms of building a relationship there's no difference between the two. Besides, as I said, we've had a number of Spurs players over the years. If we haven't built a relationship by now, we never will. [Post edited 29 Jan 21:51]

I'd say we've already achieved that with Morgan (as pointed out by terryb on page 1). Indeed, we've had a host of signings from Spurs over the years, particularly when Les was around. [Post edited 29 Jan 21:51]

You were truly a trailblazer as I remember curtains as more of a 90s haircut (a la Beckham). 80s the age of the mullet, surely? |

With Santos leaving I'm hoping this means that Dunne is staying. |

"Also, I personally see Dembele being more effective in the 10 rather than as a winger, so i can see why we wanted him to have another option on the right with Smyth." So Smyth is the Ying to your Yang? [Post edited 29 Jan 21:32]

With such a thin squad clearly we need more bodies however I'm not convinced it's required in his position. There are other more pressing areas of the pitch to address. I'm also a little concerned that if this lad can't break into the current Spurs team, is he any good? That being said, Spurs clearly didn't understand what they had in Morgan so, if he does join, let's hope for a similar result with Yang. |

Yes, having enjoyed a lucrative career for a decade in England and France, Barbet is now reportedly earning £47,000 per week (£2,444,000 per year) playing for the Saudi Club Al-Riyadh. Very precarious indeed. |

The OP started the thread based on an article published by Football League World. If it was good enough for you then, it's good enough for you now. As for November, I already told you that's your date which doesn't interest me in the slightest. Learn to read. I note that your thirst for evidence doesn't extend to you providing any to support your conspiracy theory that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk away. Instead, you continue to deny the obvious through attempts at cancel culture. That culture doesn't wash with me. No amount of "well, we don't know the details", or focusing on an irrelevant date which you invented, or claiming that clear evidence is clickbait, will win you the day. As you're clearly both stubborn and ignorant, I'll take this opportunity to summarise and close proceedings. KensalT (KT) believes that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk away. This is despite the fact that QPR offered Yoann a contract which he rejected (something which he also did at Brentford). KT insists that a solid, reliable defender with 7 years experience in the Championship, in the prime of his physical life at 28/29, and available on a free, received no other offers to remain in England. When presented with irrefutable independent evidence, KT simply dismisses it as clickbait. KT also reckons that Barbet never considered a return to France until the last minute despite the fact that Barbet is French, his partner is French, they have a young son, and ultimately Barbet left QPR to return to his boyhood club, Bordeaux. When challenged repeatedly to offer up evidence to support his conspiracy theory, KT provides none. In desperation KT leans on the opinion of a fellow poster (no offence to that poster). Benny_the_ball (BTB) disputes KT's notion that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk away. BTB provided evidence that shows QPR offered Barbet a contract which the player rejected. BTB also provided evidence that Barbet left Brentford on a free having made the same noises during negotiations before rejecting a new contract. Given that Barbet left QPR to join Bordeaux, BTB suggested that the rumours linking Barbet to a return to France may have had some legs. Despite actually moving to France and subsequently spending 2 years there, KT still can't see the link (or doesn't want to). QED. In short, BTB provided a lucid, coherent argument supported by clear evidence. Meanwhile, KT continues to steadfastly stand by his conspiracy theory that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk despite offering no supporting evidence and the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I'll leave KT to die on that hill. |

Ah, carry on camper! Nice to hear from you again. Not your final, final word on the subject then? "You insist that Barbet wanted to go home to France in November 2021." I said no such thing. Those are your words and your dates. I said that the fact that he returned to France supports the rumour. Common sense dictates that returning to France would've been one option he and his family will have contemplated but that doesn't necessarily mean that it was the only option or that a final decision had been made. Given his contract situation, his young family, and the fact that he is French, it's only natural that he would consider the idea. Others on this thread seem to understand the logic, only you appear to be struggling with it. As for evidence, he actually made the move. What more evidence do you require? "You insist Barbet had offers from English clubs in 2022." https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/ex-qpr-defender-closing-in-on-transfer-move-ha https://the72.co.uk/2022/04/29/qpr-defender-yoann-barbet-attracting-interest-fro https://www.westlondonsport.com/sport/austin-among-players-potentially-leaving-q https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/how-is-yoann-barbet-getting-on-since-leaving-q He had offers from other EFL clubs as explained and evidenced above. Are you seriously suggesting that an experienced and reliable left-footed centre-back in his prime who is available on a free had no other offers whatsoever? That's utterly illogical and preposterous. And before asking folk for evidence how about producing some of your own to support your wild conspiracy theories? After all, this whole conversation started because you insist that QPR just allowed Barbet to walk, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Come on, camper. Let's be 'aving ya.
