If that's true, the club is really shooting itself in the foot imo. He's 27 - not 30 or 32! He's committed (and wants to commit). He loves playing for QPR and tells us he does. A player like Jimmy, who's never had any pace to lose, could easily go on playing till he's 33-35 at this level, and possibly at Prem level. Considering that we gave the likes of Madsen 4 years, I think, they should give him what he wants and be grateful for his loyalty.
If he and we do well, his market value will only rise, and if he wants to move later, the club could also cash in, therefore, when he's under contract. For me, it's a no-brainer. |
Other clubs will be watching this, and im sure JD's agent will be talking to them too. He's a free agent in a few months time, i dont know why any club would come in for him now.? |  |

Well, exactly. If a 5th year option is the players, we should absolutely say “no chance”. Who in their right mind would agree that?!
If it’s the club’s option, then this is just a debate about whether we want to extend 3 years or 4. I’d prefer 3, but, if he could walk for free in 5 months, and it would have given me leverage in negotiations in Jan, I would have just agreed 4 years before the turn of the year and been done with it. You can still sell him if the offer is right. And 30 or 31 for a defender isn’t over the hill. It’s prime career territory, or should be if they’ve learnt anything along the way. |

Not itk by any stretch, but was talking to a local journalist at the Millwall game about Jimmy's situation. Just sharing what I was told, as plenty of us want to know what has/hasn't been offered in terms of a contract.
Was confidently told that the Sheffield United offer that came in at the end of last week was £400k up front, rising to just under £2mil depending on appearances, promotion, etc.
We have had a straight three year deal on the table since the start of the season, but have been at an impasse with JD as he wants a 4 year deal with option for a fifth. Effectively he wants to commit his future but we won't budge beyond 3 years, as it stands.
Feel free to shoot at me if that's what gets you through the day, but just sharing what I was told. |

Isn’t that the point? If he has no resale value at 30 or 31, what’s the difference? If that poster is correct, we offered a contract until he’s 30 (when he has no resale value) but won’t extend it a year, when he will also have no resale value.
He is still likely to be a first teamer and valuable on the pitch at 31. Cook is 33, isn’t he? We’ve had lots of defenders adding value into their 30s. So what is the exposure?
The plus 1 bit is irrelevant if on the club’s side and surely no one agrees it on the player’s side! So a 3 or 4 year deal. If that’s the only sticking point, and salary is agreed, that seems odd to die in a ditch over.

This is the odd thing with Dunne - even now, at 27, his value to QPR is greater than the value his sale would generate for QPR… As with cook etc, this is likely to be the case even more so (as you say Hunter) when he’s over 30.

depends on structure of deal, if they offered 2 million up front no doubt we'd have taken it but if it's add ons etc with a small initial fee not sure it's worth taking | | | |

Firstly, I am rather surprised he is going & never thought he would depart(???) but I suppose money talks....he certainly is not a Premiership player.
To give him a 5 year contract would be far too long - 5 years is a long time for a footballer. He is not Messi or Ronaldo!! He is a CB playing RB and doing well in a poor Championship League this season....I would suggest he would struggle containing Premiership forwards & attacking midfielders, yes he will win a few tackles (but not much tackling in the PL), yes he will win a few headers, yes he may muscle a few forwards but he will give away free kicks.
Posters go on about QPR & Nourry but we do not know what Dunne is asking for. If it is a 5 year contract then that is OTT and if he is OTT with the contract then what salary & bonuses he is asking? - nobody on this MB knows - I doubt his Team mates even know.
I do not want him to go, never thought he would depart but I am sure his recent form and his agent especially are driving this massive. I would suggest that Nourry would like him to sign new contract but not 5 years (or 4 perhaps) & probably not with his money demands as well.
