I think how we come out and set up for the second half of going to be telling. The game has gone, but if we come out and just try the same thing it says a lot about Ainsworth

the owners may be crap. the players may be crap- but we cant change the owners and we cant really change the players too much either
all that aside, no one can defend this manager. we are playing fox who doesnt have match fitness and is only starting b/c everyone else is hurt. we're playing gubbins whose effectively a debutant and has not started a single match in the football league. we're forced to start dozzell b/c no one else is available
we're playing a decent watford team at their home with a good, attacking manager who plays at tempo
so how does ainsworth set up? with 2 freaking strikers, of which one is kelman who also has not proven hes ready to start at this level. of all the days you needed more midfield solidity, today was the day with the inexperienced slapdash backline ... in order to get the ball upfield, we need either chair or smyth to get forward, as well as one of the midfielders. this means that when we lose the ball, you basically need one incisive pass to be 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 against our backtracking backline
this is about the players, but its also about defensive shape and tactics. we've barely had any possession or shots
GA is clueless
This is exactly what I was thinking. However .... we just don't have to players to change this.
2 and a half months to plan for this day and our team is worse than it looked on the last day of the season
I feel for poor Gubbins and Fox .....plus WTF is Colback thinking ? No wonder JCS is always injured

I’d expect as many changes as we saw vs Bristol City at the end of last season.

The truth is, when everyone was crowing about the Burnley result being a masterclass of rope-a-dope: this is what usually happens when, to paraphrase, 'possession does one'.
Bare bones.

I know it's a terrible thing to say, but we'd have been better off getting relegated last season, because we are going to set a low points record for the Championship this season and go down in flames.

But he has NO CENTRAL DEFENDERS.
The blame is squarely at the clubs door. Entering into a league season with ZERO specialist Central Defenders that have played at this level is negligence of the highest degree. That may be GAs fault, but where are the Academy boys ready to step up? We have enough freekin' coaches at the club. Clearly awful.
He has one central defender but bearing in mind our obvious weakness in defence Gaz has not set us up with this in mind.

Any manager at this level should have the ability to look at his squad and come up with some sort of plan, this had to be a 4-5-1 playing defensively and seeing what Watford had about them, stay in the block at all times and only become adventurous later in the game, all these massive gaps and lack of pressure is mind bogglingly bad. Doesn’t really look like we’ve changed anything other than a couple of faces

Say what you want about the players, and its all true, I seriously doubt we would be this bad with Warbs or Beale back. We would be competitive
It’s a fair point. Warburton and Beale gave the players belief (for the most part) but Ainsworth seems to be incapable of doing the same. He’s talked our chances down to the point that most of us were expecting this result today. It’s p1ss poor management.

No pride whatsoever, it feels like the players are doing it on purpose. If I was in charge I would fine every single player on that pitch a weeks wages. If you can't get up for the first game of the season then that says it all. Shower of s hit the lot of them.

Ainsworth has had all summer to put something together, didn't seem to do much other than look at who he could bring in from Wycombe

Smyth, Chair, Kelman not adding anything defensively...or going forward.
Mad set up. If you think you're up against it - fair enough with this squad and tight finances - then surely you have to set up as solidly as possible, even if it's ugly to watch.
Just saw a shot on the stream of Watford subs doing HT warm-up drills whilst Rangers subs aimlessly walk about and do keepy uppys (admittedly haven't seen the whole HT period so don't know if anything different happened). For some reason no manager seems able to fix this...
We are not a professional football club anymore - and haven't been for some time. And apologies to amateur clubs who could show us a thing or two.

Just watching on Sky, just can't take anymore, turned over to the cricket. Appalling squad, manager totally out of his depth, it's a toxic mix with only one outcome. Drastic action required!

And the record is 8pts, jointly held by Loughborough and Doncaster, both at the start of the 20th Century, and when a win was worth 2 pts..... Where are our 9pts coming from? Some pretty fundamental things need to change...

I thought the same after the final whistle went against Bristol City. I knew this was coming...just couldn't bring myself to accept it. I most definitely have now.
