Name linked number 1.
Seeing that he is not on on the released list and he is a forward for me that makes it less likely.....

But who knows.....

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

Wikipedia has it that he signed a 2-year contract with Doncaster R. last summer:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordy_Hiwula

But, if he scored only one goal in 20 league appearances (according to soccerbase):

https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=78238

maybe Donny want to move him on.

Not a lot of love for him online.

Good old Calvin was on Radio Bolton on Saturday, from Boundary Park. An odd choice for covering Oldham, given the history between him and one of their former players.

In a previous Oldham match, the main commentator had referred (in a characteristically matey-FM, jokey sort of way) about Calvin's notorious coming-together with Peter Clarke, back in the day. Such was the sniggering and smirking from the commentator that it was quite easy for Calvin to say nothing at all by way of a response - the perfect response.

Wow a prolific goal scorer just what we need.
Lets not waste time on losers like this .
We have two decent forwards if they get a pre season together and on the pitch at the same time it might click. Also wouldnt mind Andrews as well.

Plus Odoh, Grant, who are capable of playing up front. Plus Jimmy K or Jimmy B, who've both played there in the past. Not sure a forward is first priority (although if Hendo fancied going for the record I wouldn't say no).

Edited to remove Newby/Done, whose release was announced as I was typing... :(

More than five years later, as far as I'm aware, neither Calvin nor Clarke have said what provoked the incident. Or are the facts out there?

Not as far as I'm aware. I think whatever it was remained out on the pitch and was settled at that point.

Calvin took his punishment, which was way more than a routine 3 game ban, and he said nothing more about it.

Having watched him for years, I can only hazard a guess at what made him snap, so absolutely and unequivocally, as he did.

Maybe the Radio Bolton commentators had picked up some details from press contacts. Reporting for the MEN at the time (18 Nov 2016) one Chris Slater has Clarke as the innocent Party (even comparing Calvin with Joey Barton!):

A Rochdale player hit with one of the longest bans in English football has had it reduced on appeal.

Dale striker Calvin Andrew received a whopping 12 GAME suspension for a vicious elbow strike during the club’s derby against Oldham.

Footage shows Andrew running at Latics defender Peter Clarke and delivering a forearm smash in the 0-0 draw at Spotland on October 29, leaving the player dazed on the ground.

The off-the-ball incident was missed by the referee but was caught on video and the FA took action.

He was found guilty of violent conduct and was banned for 12 matches with an independent disciplinary panel saying the normal three-game ban for sendings-off would have been “clearly insufficient.”

It is the joint-second longest football ban ever handed down in this country, with only United Eric Cantona being banned for more games after his infamous flying kick at a Crystal Palace fan in 1995.

It was also the same punishment Joey Barton received after going on the rampage when playing for QPR in their memorable final-day defeat to Manchester City in 2012.

Whilst City’s Ben Thatcher only received an immediate eight game ban (with a further 15 games suspended) for his sickening elbow which knocked Portsmouth’s Pedro Mendes unconscious in 2006,

The first six games of Andrew’s suspension were fixed though he was able to appeal against the second six matches.

At the time, the club said: “The player admitted his behaviour constituted violent conduct but denied the clearly insufficient element of the charge.”

And he has now successfully had it reduced by three matches on appeal.

In a statement, Rochdale said: “Following a hearing at Wembley on Thursday, Calvin Andrew’s ban has been reduced to nine games.

“No further comment will be made on this matter.”

It has not gone down well Oldham fans and many other football supporters who have labelled the assault “disgusting” and “sickening.”

Have I missed us signing him?

Given the incident was the subject of a lengthy FA ban, there is probably something legal in stopping it being made public.

I'm not sure there's anything to gain by dragging it up getting on for six years later.

With the caveat that Soccerbase has been known to be inaccurate, looking at Calvin Andrew's record of yellow (five in a season once, but the last one late enough to Dodge a ban, otherwise between 0 and 4, it may be that the Clarke incident was the only suspension he ever picked up. (May have committed mayhem in the reserves when a youngster I suppose, but I'm not trawling throughlocal newspapers from Luton or Palace!)

Phew that was a close call. Another duffer of a forward.
But seems like the standard that RS is looking for unfortunately .

You won't answer, because you never do, but which players do you think we should be going for, given our budget and wage limitations?

Perhaps we should be giving a three-year deal to a centre-half from Northampton, like Stockport have done, for example.

Come on, let us know which players we could sign that will impress you.
