Luke Matheson 20:42 - Mar 11 with 2805 views | suffolkdale | The arrival of Paul Cook down here has seen ‘our Luke’ not even in the match squad of 18. I can’t help wishing he had returned to Spotland/ the Crown Oil arena for the remainder of this season. He certainly would have seen a lot more action, and we could really do with his almost naive enthusiasm. In terms of his development he can only be going backwards at ITFC - a great shame for him, and us........

True, but the point I was making was that when he arrived he was picked in the first game, played really well and Ipswich comfortably beat Blackpool 2-0. As part of Lambert’s bizarre squad rotation policy, and because of Peterborough’s ‘muddy pitch’, he and a number of others were rested for the next game which Ipswich lost, brought back for the next game v Northampton where the whole team played badly 0-0. He was then sub for the next two games v Oxford 0-0, and a 0-1 win at Hull. Lambert was then on his last managerial legs and Paul Cook has come in, liked by the fans, in fairness anybody would be after Mr Lambert, but he has made it crystal clear that because Ipswich have so many players ( they could comfortably put out two teams each week) he wants to focus on players under contract and possibilities for signing and most of the loan players have disappeared from the squad. Therefore unless the captain Chambers gets injured there is little or no chance of Luke getting a game in League 1, and he would have got a lot more game time with us than he will get at Portman Road. To be honest in terms of his football education he would almost have been better staying at Wolves.
