Let me start this one.

I'm sitting by the sea in Dun Laoghaire in beautiful sunshine - and there's no wind. THAT NEVER HAPPENS.

Today is going to be a day of miracles. Things that never happen are happening. We will win on the telly. We will win a London derby. We are going to beat Brentford.

Bees 2 Rs 3

Not quite sure the teams know whether we zonal or man mark. It was zonal for Toney goal which was why poor Niko had him..... wish we would go man marking
As I said at the time not just Niko marking him gave him that chance, but the FK was superb and a far cry from our efforts.
We never seem to look dangerous from ours, 8 corners and several wide FKs and can anyone think of a dangerous one
Guess we have to cut our cloth to suit but surely we can be a little more productive with FKs/corners

To a layman like me it would seem to make sense to have Carroll on them at least from the right and perhaps Willock from the left but you’d assume they practice this stuff and Chair is the best in training. You’d also want the ball falling to Chair on the edge of the box. But what do I know?

The question of why don’t BOS and Chair pass the ball to Dykes. Last night BOS did just that and Dykes scored but Chair steadfastly refuses to pass to Dykes. Why ?

I've noticed this too. Too often, imo, Chair and BOS are playing for themselves - BOS for a move and Chair to prove he can replace Eze.

As a result they're making poor choices, BOS always tries to beat another man when he should get an early cross in, yesterday he got an early cross in and Dykes scored, Dykes has been looking for that all season but BOS hasn't delivered.

Chair doesn't seem to trust Dykes yet, but Chair needs to realise that he isn't as good as he thinks he is. Chair tries to do something spectacular and ends up losing the ball or putting it in row z when Dykes (or others) are the obvious choice. The biggest difference between Eze and Chair is that Eze generally had good decision making and could make the team tick by bringing others into the game, Chair isn't doing that.

Poll: Who’s better?

This was one of those defeats when it is possible to look back and be positive. Forget the controversial decision by the referee; overall, the difference between the two teams has shrunk and we looked a decent team for long spells in that game. Overall, the players seem to have confidence in each other (note the success of quick, short passes between players under pressure) and a playing style is developing.
There is a cloud on the horizon, though. I hope that there is a plan for the replacement of Bright Osayi-Samuel. He must, surely, be on his way and so much of the real attacking threat (as opposed to the passing across the face of their defence) came from him. And, on that subject, he definitely put the effort in, last night, but why does he look like he is not enjoying it?

So, overall, not too bad, especially first half. The clear positive being Dykes first goal from open play. A clear man of the man performance from the big man, as far as I am concerned. The appearance of Thomas was another positive and it seemed a logical change to move BOS to the left and Thomas to the right. The removal of Willock was certainly due as he contributed absolutely nothing in the second half - how long does it take to get up to speed fitness-wise? Just after he put a simple cross onto the roof of the goal, he was dispossessed on the edge of the box and made no attempt to track his man. Whether this was lack of fitness or lack of desire, either was poor.

Niko, too, was poor, given a torrid time in the first half and out-muscled by Toney (why was he detailed to mark him) for the goal. Obviously, we all feel that Brentford should have been down to ten men by half-time, but the lino did us a massive favour with Toney's first disallowed goal.
The other changes baffled me a little. By removing Ball, we were left open down the middle as Carroll (who ran Dykes close for MOM) was left to man the fort on his own. So Adomah comes on and then Thomas (first proper game of the season, remember) has to move again, as it clearly wasn't working for uncle down the middle. Predictably Adomah's involvement improved and he did some good work down the right. But Thomas, who started off really brightly, disappeared. Then removing Niko, (which left us with no FB's on the pitch) long after the damage was done and replacing him with Bonne, who as far as I could determine didn't touch the ball, was another strange one. I thought losing Kane should have have created an opportunity to bring on Kakay's power and pace down the right, married to Adomah's guile could have caused problems in the last few minutes.
To me, Warburton's changes were reactive and ill-judged and lacking any great planning. Whereas, Frank was proactive, bold and maximised the opportunity to bring on all 5.

But overall, not too bad, played some nice stuff and had them on the back-foot in injury time without troubling them. Without question, Brentford not nearly as slick as last year, but Toney is the real deal.A £25m premiership player in 12 months time, with or without Brentford. But hey, we've got ourselves a decent striker too.

Re. their disallowed goal, it was definitely offside based on the replays, to the extent which the Sky pundits changed their opinions after viewing the incident a few times, but I am actually agreeing with you because it was a very tight call and with no VAR, it could've been given either way.

I don't think I would enjoy playing for a team that had lost 19 out of 20 times on a Friday and kept losing to their supposed smaller rivals. You can't blame any player for wanting to leave a club with no ambition.

I didn't expect us to get a win last night, so the overall result wasn't a huge let-down. However, some of the bits I watched looked much more positive than last season's game. I thought the defence looked a lot less nervous (maybe Dieng is a big part of that) and Dykes put himself around nicely. Still a lot to do but we seem to be making progress.

I don’t think I’d consider the club’s Friday night record going back to some arbitrary point in time as my main criteria for deciding where I wanted to play.

We played well.

We lost.

We won’t go up or down.

All these games without fans are irrelevant.

Brentford are in Middlesex. I will never hate them.

I hate the Kings Road Shite irrationally and rationally. Utter waste of humanity.

All certainties IMHO apart from your second clause in no.3...

I was dreading London derby defeat bingo on here - evil Les, the club is broken, Tony's catastrophic errors etc - but that doesn't seem to have happened, mercifully. Well done, you lot. The focus seems mostly to be on tactical and fitness issues.

Perhaps that in itself is an indication that we are making some progress. That wasn't a perfect performance but we competed well and The Bees had to scrap for their win. If their man had been sent off, we could well have got something out of the game.

No mate, his position for the free kick not the first goal. Supposed to be near post man to stop the exact free kick that happened going into the box. Poor effort.

As for the red, 2 very stupid and avoidable fouls. Poor game for me in an overall decent team performance.

When I coach a team I would never expect my far post full-back (in this case Kane) to be at the near post. I put both full-backs on their respective posts and put someone big and strong - in this case either Dykes or Dickie - to mark their main dangerman.
But has been pointed out elsewhere, it was a hell of a delivery (btw from a needlessly conceded free-kick from Willock) and despite all the dead ball opportunities we had - 9 corners and numerous free-kicks - we never once troubled them

It says something about the club though - we have lost 19 of the last 20 matches played on a Friday night. These are more than often games shown live on TV. Sorry, but I think that's a disgraceful record and indicative of the culture of mediocrity that pervades the club. Yes, we played great last night in the first half, but again, that's one half. Similarly, everyone just shrugs and accepts the 'defending' for their winning goal when it's the same kind of mistakes that we've been making over and over again. The club shouldn't be accepting such low standards.....as that's why any decent player with some ambition will move on as quickly as possible.

Exactly. Offside is offside. Commentator tried to make out that Toney was unfortunate not to get the decision because he was nearly onside. I don’t fully understand the logic.

First half you the better team HT couldn’t come quick enough.
We scored against the run of play and should have gone 2 up when the keeper passed it straight to Marcondes who should score.
Dykes should have done better when slicing wide with plenty of time to control the ball.by the way his goal comes off his shin.
Def red card for sorrenson you either wave play on or it’s a straight Red can never be a yellow.
Chair the best midfielder on the pitch all game absolute class
BoS great cross for the goal as he was left by Henry and Fosu who had been stuck to him up till then and were caught 30 yards up the pitch.Thought Henry got the better of him this time and don’t think he got any crosses in untill later in the game when marked by Canos.Lot of our fans were impressed with him but I thought he tried too much show boating like Benrahma used to at the wrong time.Worth a 5 mill punt by a club with money to burn.
Other than first 10 minutes it was all us second half as Franks changes which looked strange at the time worked.
Sending off was pretty clear cut also Hamalainen was on a yellow when he hacked down Mbeumo for the free kick that led to the winner.Referee was dreadful understatement I know.
We are nowhere near the team we were last season and swop Toney and Pinnock with Dykes and Dickie the score is reversed.
You remind me of how we were a few years back and even under Warbs good on the eye but concede too many goals.
Pretty sure both teams will be playing in the championship next season unless Benham splashes the cash in January.

Agree with most of that, except you've fallen into the Hinchcliffe trap of confusing Hamailainen with Willock. Niko was indeed on a booking, but it was Willock who committed the foul.

Totally agree with that assessment, the switch to 343 was extremely astute.

If top two isn't a combination of B'mouth, Norwich and Watford I'd be shocked - they arent out of 3rd gear yet (Watford dont seem out of 1st) and look miles above the rest of the league.

Not sure anyone’s happy with the result or performance, I know I’m not. I see people saying it’s better than last season, which is fair comment. Doesn’t make me feel much better personally, but it’s fair comment.

And I don’t see anyone being silenced here or being put on the naughty step, it’s probably the most laissez faire board going. Any suggestion to the contrary strikes me as a persecution complex, to be honest.
