Hornets game 11:49 - Jan 17 with 29103 views | onedalefan | Called off due to snow making the surrounding area unsafe and taking conditions of people travelling into account.Says that the pitch is rated 50/50 to play but would take time to move the snow. Would suggest they were still thinking of playing even after yesterday.

If it isn't ruined for the rest of the season it Will be down to the ground staff performing miracles to put it right, and of course a considerable sum of money paid for by the Dale. You can be damn sure Hornets won't be dipping their hands into their pockets though. Have you seen the pitch by the way? I saw it as I left the ground on Saturday in bloody good nick, then again after Hornets had played on it when it looked like a mud wrestling arena on a giant scale. Have you also seen the tonnes of sand that has been delivered? If the answer to both is no then you can't comment can you?

Hornets game on 22:13 - Jan 20 with 2148 views | dalestats | I thought the damage to the pitch is caused by drainage issues? Yes I know the Hornets have trashed the pitch in the past and treat the Football Club with contempt but the excess rain at the moment is the problem surely. I'll take this all back of course when I attend the game v Burton and the pitch looks like Blackpool’s last season

And so does this guy (our ex groundsman) OliMakin - last week "If its as wet as it was against chesterfield there is not a lot else you can do. The mess that last weekend caused has given them a problem for the rest of the season."

You're wasting your time MD,a blackpool sized amount of sand isn't in one bit conducive to a game of football, rugby on the other hand it doesnt make much difference, hence his trouble comprehending such a simple fact.

If your first point is correct, all the more reason to be circumspect when playing pointless friendlies against 'top class opposition'.

I way say the pitch is ruined from an ideal football playing perspective. Maybe there will be improvement in May which is near as dammit, season over. Reports say it is now mainly mud, which has been "improved" by putting sand down. Not much grass, which is the ideal sporting surface as it takes a stud, enabling sure footing to play sport. For it to improve, the grass needs to grow. Have you got a lawn Ming? I do not recall cutting the grass when I was in the UK until May. That game should not have been played. I was wondering if CD's long term plan, if he is pro Rugby as you believe, would be to sort the stadium out, get it financially sound and then work with Hornets, RL, Council, whoever to find smaller stadium for Hornets, combined with an all weather pitch for both teams to train on. Said Years ago that Mayfield/ Cassy Gabs set up would suit the crowds Hornets get these days. Anyhow that is just an idea. He can't get control of Spotland Stadium for starters.

Thing is , if Hornets had a choice they would have played on it last Sunday also - it doesn't really matter to them at the end of the day if its a mud heap.Their statement mentioned more about the surrounding areas than the pitch. They dont care about Dale and I imagine Dale dont care about Hornets - bit like a marriage that has failed. They really need a divorce.

IT WAS A FRIENDLY MATCH!! How many times does anyone have to state this? If it had been a league match - in the season, when the weather is supposed to be better - it would have been a different matter.

Hornets are tenants, why would Dale need to negotiate with Hornets?

Is that the case? I assumed they were/are, to all intents and purposes, co-owners. Isn't that the problem, that Dale fans regard them as unwelcome guests. I'm speaking from a position of ignorance!

Yes they are tenants only, they were co-owners before they illegally used their shares against a loan from the RFL. They then defaulted on the loan and so the shares became the property of the RFL.

It is worth noting throughout all of this that this was the previous Hornets. We can argue that they still play under the same name, same kit colours, same stadium and go on about the same date that they started, but despite life not always being a bed of roses, there is no reason to believe that the mistakes of the previous regime have been repeated.

I preferred the old Hornets kit. You can't beat a chest band trimmed in a third colour. Might start a thread on rugby shirts.
