Charlie Austin.....£8Mill....... on 01:49 - Nov 19 by michumagic9 | Is that even a question? I would take Austin for 8 million any day! A proven goal scorer throughout the English divisions and scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season in a poor QPR side. It's a bit of a no brainer in my opinion, I don't know what a few of these fellas on here are thinking but Austin for 8 million is a bargain. A big upgrade from what we have at the moment, but I don't think Monk will go for him as he is happy with his strike options with Gomis and Eder and I don't think Jenkins will fork out the HUGE fee of 8 million anyway... Especially after the sale of Bony, we can't afford to fork out a MASSIVE 8 million, can we?? 😂 |
How do you still not realise that the Bony money (most of which we have still not actually received) has already been spent on players? Naughton, Cork, Ayew, Tabanou, Eder, Nordfeldt is easily £25-30m in outgoings since last January.

Charlie Austin.....£8Mill....... on 23:11 - Nov 18 by Glyn1 | I think Monmouth is right. What would this say to Eder if he is still not selected to begin a match? £5 million is too much to pay for a sub, if that's what Garry considers him to be. Is Garry's problem that he didn't want Eder here in the first place but has to work with whoever he's given? Play Gomis on Saturday since he wasn't involved in friendlies, then give Eder a chance. If any Manager in the PL doesn't have the last word on who he wants to sign he's not worth being employed. As for Eder,he needs at least a dozen games on the trot to see if he is suited to the PL nd even that may not be enough. As an aside we could have signed Callum Wilson for half what he cost if our scouts had been awake at the time he was scoring for fun in League 1,talk about not spotting a diamond when its looking at you.

Why do persistently keep blaming our scouts for Wilson? when no other premier club took a chance on him, he's out for the season, so why keep banging on

He could have been good for us in the championship next season.

So without selling Bony we would have been up the creek without a paddle, how much is still owed to us?

^^ this^^ If not Austin then someone else must be brought in when the window opens, goals will keep you in the Premier league and we are simply not producing!!

Agreed, and I'm sure said players will chip in with a few, bit a striker to hit 15+ goals by the end of the season will be crucial to staying up or not, can Gomis hit that target.... maybe, but he needs to go on a run.... and quickly

We're probably getting monthly payments from City spread over the next year or two. That's how most deals are structured these days, it's rarely money up front in the modern football world. Being financially sound and having enough cashflow to go spend freely aren't always one and the same.
Charlie Austin.....£8Mill....... on 16:14 - Nov 19 with 2036 views | AnotherJohn | Basically we have one PL standard striker in Gomis, and he is out of form. The claims of some that Eder, Emnes or Ayew could fill that role do not look so clever now. I'd say we do need a signing or the second half of the season is going to be very challenging, Hopefully Gomis will have another good run soon, but I don't think he is consistent enough to be given the sole main man role; he needs competition and we need a plan B.

So what is to stop us signing players on the same basis? We haven't received most of the £25m, why do people assume we would have to pay all of our transfer fees in a single instalment?

The club doesn't like to take on debt, either in the form of loans or future payments towards players. Complaining about how Swansea handle their finances is laughable when you look at how the rest of the football world operates. Half the football league flirts with bankruptcy. Our club will be fine if the worst happens and we go down.

So we sell players on the drip (like everyone else does) but will only spend £8m or whatever on a player when we have the funds to buy them outright, even when we have guaranteed income in the form of the Bony payments to offset any instalments against? Yes, we will be fine if we go down, but that's still something we should be doing our best to avoid.

It's prudent not to count chickens before they've hatched, and with the way the wage bill has increased over the last couple of seasons that oil money may be needed elsewhere should the worst happen. Clubs with billionaire backers can afford to commit millions long term because they have diverse finances that can support it if it all goes tits up. We're just a football club.

I would get that approach if we didn't have the Bony money, or even if it had already been allocated elsewhere. What you are essentially describing though is rainy day money in case we get relegated. Surely we would be better using it to ensure we don't get relegated in the first place?

It's not like we haven't spent. We just haven't spent particularly well based on current evidence (but it's still early days).

Are you blind mun. We have a plan B and it's a very cunning one. Bring Eder on for the last two and a half minutes (plus injury time obviously...we wouldn't want to be ridiculous.)

I'd agree with that. The club has been spectacularly well run since the current board took control, but if they have spent £5m on Eder, when they could have used the loan market. Then left themselves in the position that they can't afford to buy (if we need another striker) in January, then they have dropped a bit of a bollock this time.

I doubt that amounts to even £20m. And then you've got the PL money... There should be plenty left in the pot, but Austin represents terrible value at £8m, as he did in the Summer

Naughton = £5m. Cork = anywhere from £1.5m to £3m depending upon who you believe. Ayew = £5m signing fee minimum. Maybe more. Tabanou = £3m Eder = £5m Nordfelt = undisclosed but unlikely to be less than £1m. So even the best case scenario takes you to £20m just on fees, never mind signing bonuses (players you pay a fee for still get those, just not as big) and wages. Total package cost for all six players over the course of their contracts would comfortably take us past £30m. Probably closer to £40m. You're bang on when you say that Austin is terrible value for the kind of price QPR want though, which is obvious when you look at the lack of serious interest in him.

Oh ok so your saying that if we didn't sell Bony then we wouldn't of made those signings????... The only one we maybe wouldn't of made would be Eder... And what's that a big 5 Million... 😂
Charlie Austin.....£8Mill....... on 09:15 - Nov 20 with 1785 views | jasper_T | I'm saying that the Bony money isn't sitting in a bank account somewhere waiting to be spent. You can add paying off Tiendalli and Michu's contracts to the list of summer cashflow expenses. That had to be at least £2m up front.
