Targets for next season 16:23 - Apr 19 with 7641 views | D_Alien | A couple of people have posted that they "need to know the club's targets for next season" before buying a ST I really don't recall anyone demanding to know what the club's targets were for the next season before buying a ST during the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's or indeed 2000's What's changed? That we're just a damned sight more successful nowadays?

Targets for next season on 12:34 - Apr 20 by D_Alien | Well, we stayed in the third tier from 1969 to 1974 (5 seasons) but then finished rock bottom in the most abysmal season in the club's history - worse even than when we finished bottom of the 4th tier in terms of how it felt and much worse than when we finished bottom under Eyre/Coleman. But fair play to pioneer for replying and whilst every single one of us gets the points he's making, I maintain that his conclusion is wrong. For one thing, the club are embroiled in the stadium issue, pending which all bets are off in terms of the future. Secondly, the club have appointed a new marketing person with what appears to be an extended remit, if not as extensive as some of us would like to see. Thirdly, the board will know that the only realistic prospect of retaining the services of KH is if they start to match his ambitions. If they didn't, I'm sure he'd be looking to move on again. There must be some pretty intensive discussions between the manager and key board members at times to ensure they're all singing from the same hymnsheet (in a church heated by Dunphy, of course). If KH stays longer term, we'll make the championship, of that I have little doubt. [Post edited 20 Apr 2015 12:40]

Not sure about the last sentence, though the converse is undoubtedly true. Without wishing to be unkind or unfair to him, Hill's ambitions and responsibilities are to himself and his family, as is only right and proper. The opportunity to demonstrate ambition for Rochdale lay in the Done transfer; the board and manager benefitted (if we are to believe the arrangement regarding player sales, and, in my view, it's perfectly proper that he does benefit), the supporters lost.

Because didnt somebody mention that dreaded P word and Dunphy didnt want to achieve the P word..... So maybe its a reason for supporters to starting asking questions before parting with their hard earned money.... Only a thought......

Targets for next season on 20:43 - Apr 20 with 1840 views | buckbyname | My wishlist for the close season is that 1. KH publishes a full list of all his target signings to the supporters before he contacts the players in question and the clubs they play for. 2. That the retained list is broadcast on the internet before he tells the players who are not retained. 3. The profitability and cash avail able is made known to the general public before a) talking to any prospective signings and b) the week before any negotiations to buy the ground 4. There is a promise to publish team sheets at least 48 hours before any game next season 5. The tactics to be employed to exploit any weaknesses in the opposition are exposed on twitter in good time before each game. 6. Make every third game free for all non season ticket holders. If these wishes are granted I can safely avoid buying a season ticket and continue to encourage my friends from over the Pennines to attend matches and try and make up for the neglect by Rochdale locals. Stupid? Not as stupid as some of the suggestions by some of the eejit postings on here BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR !!!!

Depends on your point of view. We can't pay Hilly a massive salary, so incentives like this might be our best way of keeping him around. On the flip side, he will always be criticised when we sell. It happened recently to Jackie McNamara, who has a similar deal at Dundee United, when he sold two key players to Celtic.

Only if Hill was the only one to sanction the transfers. If the board felt the way of a couple of the conspiracy theorists in here do, the foot would be put down. As it is, his management of the club has led to the club being at its most profitable and a likely highest ever league finish all of which on this contract that was signed in 2013 so I'm guessing the board trust him implicitly. And rightly so.

Yes but most of the players are here BECAUSE of Keith Hill. Say the Matt Done Transfer involved 90% going to the club and 10% going to Hill - the alternative is 0% going to the club because Matt Done isn't at Dale because Keith Hill isn't Dale manager.

Not sure if it's true or not, not sure if any other clubs would do it or not. But I trust that Hill wants to be successful, would he want 10% of a transfer or would he want to have "won promotion to the championship with a Rochdale" on his cv forever? For that reason I'm perfectly fine with him getting which ever bonuses required to keep him at the club.

That's a bit of a pointless argument ddb to be fair because whoever manages any team is responsible for bringing the majority of playing staff into the club and let's remember it's not the manager who finances the signing of players or pays their wages, that's the club and indirectly the supporters. They make the investment. I don't have a particular problem with Hilly being on a cut of transfers if that's the best way of financing his wages but there's not many managers who would encourage the sale of their leading goal scorer to a play off rival on transfer deadline day. The complete opposite is true and we all know that. Supporters are well within their rights to comment about any decision the manager or the Chairman makes without being accused of scaremongering. Some agree with the manager being on a cut of transfers and others don't that's just normal and the timing of the Matt Done transfer is what seems to have brought up the suggestion that there's a conflict of interserests, again that's a normal reaction I think. If we had sold him during the close season, I don't think the controversy around the transfer would exist. Regarding the Chairman and Directors, they would sell the club cat if it stood still long enough.

Tbf Col the club as a business whilst happily bobbling around in league 1 will have no problem sanctioning any transfer to bring additional funds into the comapny pot. A deal made to perfectly fit both parties currently.

I already gave the example of Dundee United and I'm sure there are others. These type of deals are usually kept quiet to avoid just this kind of scrutiny. Whether rightly or wrongly, that's up for debate. Let's just say that when McNamara's deal was revealed, the Dundee United fans were far from happy. In our case, as I previously stated, it seems a way of compensating Hilly for the fact we can't pay a high salary. If that's what it took for him to come back to us, and then extend his deal, I'm happy enough with it.

We have to sell players it will always be like that, our crowds dictate that, if we didn't we wouldn't survive. Selling your leading goal scorer and one of your star players on deadline day is like having the rug pulled from under you. It was always going to make some fans question the motives behind it and let's remember not all of the supporters feel as though they are answerable to the manager, we don't all want or feel the need to be 'educated' by the Messiah!! Hillys paid by the club and its only right that he should be accountable to the supporters, we are well within our rights to question any decision he makes and transfer dealings at ANY club are always a hot topic. Give him his 10%, he deserves it, but can we all please stop bowing down to the guy. He isn't a surgeon and he doesn't save lives.
Targets for next season on 09:09 - Apr 21 with 1405 views | TTNYear | Who is bowing down to him? Appreciating him, yes. I think if we all cast our minds back to the previous 2 encumbents, and if I remember TS you went to see one in the flesh. Which one would you rather have out of the three? Obvious answer I know. Until we get 4/5k through the gates on a regular basis, certainly in this division it will always be the case on selling players... And that ain't coming soon. Some people see the cup half empty.. Some half full. I know which one I see, and the last time I saw it half empty, Coleman was in charge... Actually it was two thirds empty. But I suppose it fits an agenda for some that those who appreciate Hill, are those that are kneeling down performing fellatio whilst Hilly cackles evilly, throwing copious amounts of money in the air. This is simply not true.

I think we all appreciate what Hily has done, well we should do. I haven't met anybody who thinks the cup is half empty. The fact that supporters criticise the manager whether it be regarding transfer dealings/ team selection/ media comments etc is deemed by some as being treason or disloyal, which is a ridiculous theory. Everything is up for discussion and hilly is the focus point of the club so obviously his decisions will always be the hot topic, that's Football. A quote you like to use "They are only words" or does that not apply when discussions centre around the manager? I think 99% of the fanbase appreciate Hilly but obviously only a small percentage of those would drop to their knees when the words 'Keith Hill' are mentioned. We are all different and implying that those who criticise Hilly in any way have an agenda is ridiculous. Football Managers decisions and comments will always split opinions. You don't have to go down the 'blow job' route to show your appreciation, there are other ways of showing it, like wearing pink pants.

I wasn't the one who said we were all bowing down to him though. I didn't mean they had an agenda in that way. In the way a post maybe being construed and their overall feeling/thoughts towards the manager . It cuts both ways. Being critical isn't treason, criticising the critic isn't fellatio. The bottom line for me at this current juncture is that what's happening on the field is one of the few things happening at our club, that is well oiled. Some of the other 'cogs' in our machine are rusted and some are now even refusing to turn. I'd rather concentrate on that. And yes words on a screen and opinions are of the same ilk, and Hilly should treat them just like that. But we all have weaknesses, and some of his outburst are unseemly and probably unwise, but until his negatives outweigh his positive (and lets face it there is a lot more than the other), he's got a long leash. I'll take the odd out burst due to fan criticism, than having to support Bobby Grant, Sean McConville et al (and all the other flotsam and jetsam of those years).

Agree with most of that.Listen, i would keep Hilly as manager for another 20 years, he's a bit of a Ted Loon but arent we all at times.
