Welsh Football this Weekend 20:13 - Apr 27 with 1089 views | SgorioFruit | Swansea City 4-1 Aston Villa No words needed here. Oh apart from one.. Sgoooooorrrrrrriiiioooooooooooooo Sunderland 4-0 Cardiff bottom two teams in the premier league went head to head, in my eyes there was no way Sunderland were going to lose this game. I did listen in on radio wales for all of ten minutes and I must say Cardiff sounded quite strong, but like i said, it was only ten minutes of listening. Cardiff have come to the premier league and made a complete mockery of the game. I truely feel sorry for the proper footballing fans of that club, but apart from that its a big good riddance from me. Their fans going to stadiums and smashing crap out of the toilets/seats/televisions is absolutely disgusting, they are still stuck in the 70's/80's and there is no place for that type of behaviour in football today. And whats more i hate to see foreign businessmen use ANY football club as a plaything while the fans have their hearts ripped out. And for that reason, send them down. So Tan can bugger off and let that be an example to any other future club that will sell their soul for the price of one season in the top flight. back on track... York 1-0 Newport County Didnt listen in much on this game so i can't comment. But i hope Newport get a win on their last game of the season against Rochdale on Saturday. Newport can still finish top half of the league, although that would be hoping they win saturday and three teams above them lose. But County fans should be content with their efforts in their first season back in the football league. I keep promising County Jim i will get down there to watch them. I really do have to make some time for that. Forest Green 1-1 Wrexham Wrexham scored a last minute pnalty to secure a draw here on their last day of the season. Wrexham finished this season 17th place, 8 points above relegation. But with new boss Kevin Wilkin promising some big changes for next season, i think they will be more of a settled and ready team than they were this time round. And with big boys Luton now out of the league i see that as one less threat, allthough it is a bloody hard league to get out. I should also mention that Chester got relegated rather than Hereford. Chester let in a 86th minute equalizer to send them down. I hope to see them bounce back up next season, but also chuffed for struggling Hereford to have survived. Its always great to have these teams on our borders to do well, so we can lend our youngsters out to them to get some real game time. Leamington 2-1 Colwyn Bay Colwyn finsihed this season in 12th place and Leamington finished in 13th. Had Colwyn managed a draw then they would have finished 11th , in top half of their league. This has got to be put down as a successfull season for Colwyn Bay who are maanged by ex Chelsea star Big Frank Sinclair. who was incidently linked with the then vacant post as Wrexham manager a few weeks ago, but turned it down swearing his allegiance to Colwyn Bay. We now have one Welsh team in league two, conference and conference north. Colwyn Bay have done themselves proud battling out some very tough games this season, I thick they even beat Stockport County away infront of nearly 3000 people. Football can be fantastic, even right down in the lower leagues. so much passion can be found at these type of games. Da Iawn Colwyn Bay. Thatcham 0-2 Merthyr Town attendance was 225 for this game. And for a good half hour it looked like Merthyr were set to be champions and get promoted, with leading at Thatcham and hearing that promotion rivals Cirencester were losing at Yate, but it wasnt to be, Cirencester then smashed Yate 3-1 making themselves promoted as champions on the last day of the season. Merthyr will be gutted after leading the league for best part of the season and only a few weeks ago were top of their league by a clear 9 points. But they must pick themselves up and get ready for their play off semi final match this tuesday night agaisnt Swindon Supermarine. The other play off semi final is Tiverton v Paulton Rovers. Merthyr will boast home advantage for the one leg semi play off final, and also for the final should they reach it, due to finishing higher in the league. Come on Merthyr pick yourselves up and get this promotion, your club deserves it. Welsh Premier League I havn't followed the WPL as much this season but i can report that The New Saints did win the league by a clear 14 points above Airbus and they also have an extra game in hand to play as the game between Carmarthen Town v TNS was called off yesterday due to waterlogged pitch i think. I will endeavour to get down to see my local WPL team Carmarthen play some home games next season. Talking of WPL, where are Neath and Llanelli these days? did they dissolve completely or reform? That is something im not aware of and i will try look in to. Welsh Cup Final fixture is for next weekend Sat 3rd May Aberystwyth v The New Saints 3pm. Im about to sink some more bottles of Coors and search for more highlights of Shelvey's goal on youtube or wherever i can find it. Have a great weekend all. UP THE JACKS!!!!!! Welsh Football this Weekend on 21:55 - Apr 27 with 864 views | Taweboi | Thanks for the review, Sgoriofruit. To answer your queries, Neath FC don't exist now after their financial collapse, while Llanelli have played in the Welsh League Div 3. I've enjoyed following the Welsh Prem this season and watched about a dozen games at Afan Lido and Port Talbot when Swans weren't playing. Welsh Prem standard has improved a lot over the last 4-5 seasons. The danger is that it's becoming more of a North Wales league where clubs have some rich backers and experienced players from English non-league are easily available to them. Although clubs like Bangor and New Saints have excellent academies, too. Pity more clubs in South Wales don't have the ambition to apply for a Welsh Prem licence. | | | |
