The Past And The Present

The past and the present meet on Monday night at the Liberty Stadium when the Swans welcome former manager Brendan Rodgers back with his team Liverpool looking to return to the top of the table having been disposed on Saturday of the top spot position.

Our visitors are currently the only side in the Premier League with a 100% record having won all their three games by a solitary goal to nil. In comparison, the weekend games have pushed the Swans back into the bottom three although such is the early stages of the table a win on Monday night could at this point in time lift us into the top half of the table.

The win at West Brom in our last outing was a massive one as far as we were concerned especially seeing 15 days will have passed between games since that result on 1st September. Monday night's game represents the start of a huge week for the Swans - they travel to Valencia for Thursday night's Europa League game before returning to the UK and a game at Crystal Palace next Sunday.

It's been a stop start beginning to the season - Monday's game is just our second home league game of the season - 30 days after the first - but games now come thick and fast in the next week between Premier League, Capital One Cup and Europa League commitments.

Michael Laudrup admitted in Thursday's fans forum that he has not a team in mind for all three games this week and admits he has learned his lesson from the last time he allowed his eyes to drift to two games ahead - his side were beaten 5-0 at Anfield a week before their Wembley appearance last season.

And as much as I think that the Swans will have half an eye on the Thursday game in Europe I can see us being pretty much full strength for this game which will give a first home league start to club record signing Wilfried Bony. So I can see us lining up along the lines in the comments below

Liverpool are of course still without the suspended Luis Suarez but should have Daniel Sturridge back after the striker missed the England games last week due to injury. His absence did provoke some criticism from England fans but he has been defended by his club and looks set to feature in the game on Monday night.

It should promise to be a brilliant night at the Liberty and with a capacity crowd willing them on you have to fancy the Swans to produce some kind of result that will set them on the road perfectly this week.
