To be fair to Paal, he's had absolutely zero cover in front of him from either Saito or Lloyd forcing him to drop off his man when there's a chance he's going to get overloaded, meaning he's not close enough to challenge when the cross comes in.
This occurs a lot less when Chair is playing because the opposition are far less likely to overload players against Paal. |

Lloyd's a centre forward. But Cifuentes plays him on the left because he's behind Celar and Frey in their position and he sees something in him he wants to develop with first team football with less pressure on the wing than if he plays lone striker.
He cause Luton problems during the week and a start was his reward, and without Chair available, its a toss up between him Kholli, Saito, and Smyth on the left at the moment without Ilias.
I think he needs half a season on loan in League one, but he's one to watch for the future. He's definitely not a starter at the moment in my book, but certainly someone that can offer a bit of direct play as a sub in order to push the opposition back. |

I also thought that Varane had come on significantly since his debut as well.

He has some technical ability but he's really not used to the pace and physicality of the championship at the moment which is no surprise.
He will need some time. There was definitely more about him tonight than on his first match. |

A couple of corrections there.
1) Current owners haven't put the club at risk(so far). They've put their own money at risk.
2) Reggie Cannon was signed in September, Nourry took over in January. |

You're right.
I'd gone off stuff I'd read two weeks ago leading up to the signing referencing a piece in The Athletic that included the option to buy for £1.4m, but there's no mention of the option to buy in any of the signing reports, only 'initial' loan.
I still believe there's an option to buy, but like so much in this thread there's very little foundation to build any case for anything, because we don't actually have the information outside of 'rumour' from web articles....but then that is the title of this thread :) |

Due to the Warburton Splurge 3 years ago we have needed to come in way under the average for the last two years.
This means that for FFP purposes we have the same amount of headroom as the Warburton overspend.
Now if we spunk this all away this season then we'll be needing to underspend over the next two seasons or make up the difference with sales, and if they are backing their recruitment policy they may be banking on the latter.
I can see Dembele being sold on in two years for an 8 figure sum |

You defend from the front. For all I'm happy to give Calar Time, he was an empty shirt in that regard on Saturday, so much so we may as well have been playing with 10 men. |

We didn't have much in the way of ball carriers outside of Smyth.
Whilst I liked the fact that Kolli was far quicker to distribute or cross the ball than Chair it was noticeable that there were times where he stopped and went backwards when there was one defender ahead of him, when Chair would have taken them on. |

Agree.
Much as Dykes gets slammed for his finishing, his ability to press for 90 minutes and keep going is very much an asset. Lets hope Celar brings that and the finishing. |

Initial signs are good, but need to see how he commands his box in the air, as he wasn't pressured with crosses today as Spurs crossing was very wayward. |

The difference is they have a far better record at developing and selling on players than we have over the past few years.
This will be attractive to young players with ambitions of playing at a higher level.
Our record in this regard is abysmal. |

So as an 18/19yo he has a month loan at Aldershot and 2 goals in 3 games, and 2 goals in nine games for Torquay in a 2-1/2 month loan where he was mostly played out wide.
I'm not sure how you come to your assessment.
Not to mention 6 goals in 8 games in ROI U21s.
I really don't read much into a poor scoring record for us when in reality he wasn't ready for this level of football in 2022/3, and was mostly used as an impact sub in 23/24 where the team wasn't really built to service him.
He is late comer to the centre forward role with most of his youth play as a winger, and his hold up play and judging the offsides will improve with coaching and playing.
I'm disappointed we can't get him to sign, but at the end of the day with a bad agent like I'm not going to sneeze at getting 500k now and a 15 to 20% sell on fee.
Apparently Stjoke are interested now as well so maybe we'll get the price bumped a little. |

If they sell both Guehi and Eze, combined with the £50mil they got for Olise, they'll have a transfer pot of £150 mil to rebuild.
