I think Manning lost some brownie points in the Brentford cup game. After the game Holloway commented on how when he was bundled off the ball for one of their goals he stood and moaned at the ref and said last season he wasn't doing that, he was getting the ball back. He also unsuccessfully did a bit of a fancy dan trick which indirectly led to another of their goals. But obviously Holloway sees them every day in training. I sometimes feel that if you blot your copybook with Holloway you've got to work doubly hard to get back in favour. |

A Brighton fan game to the game towards the end of last season and his comments on Lua Lua were....he's not a bad player but injured too much. About right. Once you get in Holloway's bad books you have to work hard to turn it round. If you turn up late, don't track back you' re slipping down his pecking order. |

It's been mentioned here before but if you're interested in academy football and how it works then Michael Calvin's No Hunger in Paradise is a great read. Plenty of bits about the Rs. I was interested to read that a 1st year pro at Spurs was on about £32k/£33k a year. |

Unless it was a different game the only thing I recall from this game is Keith Curle taking that penalty and milking it afterwards! I think he just stood still, right in front of the Loft with his hand in the air. He knew he wasn't going to miss. |

The Yeni/Burton selection and Brentford cup games apart I think Holloway's doing alright and I'm not even much of a fan of his. Much better to watch this season. |

I used to work round there in the early 90s working lates. Had many good nights in the Tirorler Hut - one of the few places that stayed open after pub closing time. Not averse to chucking people out if you got a bit leery! The others were the Bohemia in the basement of one of those slightly seedy hotels, and Angelos further along Westbourne Grove. |

I can still picture the signing on photo of him at Reading, holding up their shirt. He looked as happy to be there as Barton did when he signed for Rangers. [Post edited 7 Oct 2017 9:35]

I think he's okay too. Doesn't seem to get on with Lynch that well. That chance in the first half, well unfortunately I'm not sure I'd back too many of our players to put a chance like that away. Thought we did well last night. |

I think punctuality is one of Holloway's "things". You're expected to be on time. I think he fell out with Danny Maddix all those years ago when Maddix missed a team meet for a bus to an away game. [Post edited 24 Sep 2017 12:34]

Burton have some experienced professionals in their side. They could have nicked it - hit the post and a great cross in the first half that just needed someone to gamble. Holloway explained the Yeni picking in his interview. Still an odd decision. The game actually managed to be worse than the away game last season. |

Did well. Let's hope he can cross and if he can't he's young enough to practice and learn. The crossing yesterday was dire. Both Bidwell and Pavel were poor. Sort of chipped floaters. At this level surely you should be able to do better than that. The technique doesn't even look right. |

It's a massive step up. After the 'Boro game Wheeler, experienced at Div 2, said it's the mental challenge, the speed of it and having to be alert and switched on all the time. I think that's partly why Goss struggled at the Brentford game last season. |

Never seen him play so will be interesting to see what he's like. Good move for him at his age. From his background seems he's from the Brighton area. |

Phil Beard was clearly the wrong appointment. No football experience at the club taken to the cleaners by various parties. |

Must do Holloway's head in. You can picture Warnock before the game. "Listen lads, this lot are slow and cumbersome at the back. Sometimes they muck about a bit, sometimes they'll clear it, sometimes they'll do a dodgy back pass. But chase everything down, harry them, get in their faces, you never know what will turn up" Holloway. "You've got options at the back, Smithies will make himself available, look to see where he is. But if in doubt clear it, hoof it" |

I read somewhere the background to the leg break was Vine taking the mick out of the keeper who I think was on trial or loan? Might be nonsense of course. I used to like watching him too. It's surprising who pops up in non-league. At least he's still giving it a go. Saw Scott Donnelly a few seasons back playing for Havant. |
| Forum Reply | Goss out on loan at 10:16 25 Aug 2017
If he's not in the frame here, he may as well go out on loan. Could make or break him. Looked shell shocked at Brentford last season. Odd signing really. |

I've noticed when the crowd gets on his back he goes to pieces a bit. It happened in a game last season and Holloway took him off. He's still young but the pressure's on him more now. |
