Yes I agree. As I alluded to elsewhere I think Marti is waiting for Chair to return and then build the team around him . He is so pivotal to how we play that MC us plugging holes until then .
He does drive us mad at times but we have all seen how much brings but especially in his absence |

Had a couple of lads or young men behind me Saturday who just nagged through the whole game about haircuts, where they were drinking later on and mostly premier league football . Told them to feck off and watch premier league football then if it’s so important |

You are talking utter shyte.
The people who work inside the club say he is anything but.
Only people who might moan about him and his team are the ones who have had their noses put out of joint by the level of professionalism placed by MC and his team who now have to do a days work to any sort of standard .
The fact that Noury is controlling the narrative again suggests MC NOT is the arrogant one.

I’d be stunned if he starts at Blackburn . He and Madsen are way too stationary for the same team at the moment .
Madsen looks better to me as 6 in alongside Field as he is certainly more comfortable on the ball.
Still don’t think Madsen has adapted to the pace of the Championship yet and that might be why he is being played further forward . |

His celebration was hilarious . He set off for the half way line after he scored at full pelt and got there about 10 mins later. 🤣
I also thought it slightly strange that none of his team mates really ran to join him. If you watch, they all just walk towards him. In some way that sums up him compared to the rest of the squad . Everyone else is bit lacklustre by comparison.
I thought he had another good game yesterday . The only one in the team able to protect the football to any degree. Big and strong against a giant of a human being . Can’t line the man up and jump at him but I don’t blame him as he got no sort of protection from the ref. |

The player that Dunne come across to the middle to mark was Fields. He didn’t track properly . Dunne had to come across and leave his man free at the back post |

Not sure about The killers or 1 or 2 other things but totally agree with almost all of the sentiment here. Starting to like Saito. Just needs more of the bloody ball I think .

The midfield is our biggest issue and has been for a while .
Saw Madsen and to a lesser extent Andersen hiding today. Was in the lower school behind the goal and it gives you a great angle on the team shape . When for example , JCS comes forward with the ball, Madsen stayed stationary behind players fronting up to the ball . No trying to create space , no coming to get the ball deep , no movement at all . We need the more advanced midfielders to start wanting the ball . Chair comes too deep at times but comes looking for the ball . Without him , we have nothing . Madsen and Andersen not only don’t try and make space they were often today too advanced so when we inevitably lose possession they are out of the game . And as for ‘possession’, this is now a real issue. Not only do we find it impossible to have any sort of ball retention , when any of our midfielders have the ball they can’t protect it or shield it at all. If they have the ball moving forward which is rare, it gets nicked off of them as they can’t protect it .
Out of them all Varane looks like he will best suited to doing this but not yet and Field through all his good work for the team just isn’t good enough to play a pass or retain possession. His ‘go to’ is just to help the ball on with aimless lobs into the opponents half.
Love Marti , but he has to take some responsibility. Not sure where Madsen was supposed to be playing cos first half he just wanted to hold Saito’s hand . Get out of his space and stop hiding !!!!
Frustrating today . 2 average teams and we couldn’t keep the ball against them . |

It feels like everything is on hold until Chair returns .
Like, until he’s back, we won’t know the way this team fits together.
One or 2 not fitting in or playing well enough . Of course it will take time but they should be moulding together better than they are |

Yeah good point . Marti taking the brunt perhaps for other managers ‘properly’ binning the cup off year after year and understandably frustrating the fan base . Even Warnock lost at home to Port vale and Rochdale (might be wrong with that one ). |

Hard watch at times but positives to take too .
I sat back in my seat midway through the second half and had exactly the same thoughts as that second paragraph. So annoyed by being so far behind a club like Palace these days . |

I’m not sure about MC and his opinion on this but from what I hear Dykes was in tears that Saturday morning begging not to be sold . But the club decided to cash in .
Got that from 2 or 3 people who were there working that day and the Luton game that followed in the cup .
I still think that was the best decision for both parties but in isolation , I have no doubt Dykes would have offered more than Celar did last night . The end result would have still been the same though I think .
I just don’t think we play to Celar’s strengths (I’m presuming they are finishing and being instinctive inside the box). He didn’t come to chase the ball across the pitch for 90 minutes in the same way Clive Allen or Gary Linekar weren’t bought for there link up play . That’s not a comparison by the way .
He is a penalty box striker it seems , playing for a team who don’t get into the box a great deal . He’ll struggle if he and we don’t find a way . |

Yes I would also agree with this . There were periods in the game where I thought Eze and others had 15 yard ‘no go zones’ around them. I accept that they do have superior players to and we were clearly afraid of being pulled apart, but we rarely put them under any sort of pressure or press . I don’t even remember a bad tackle apart from maybe Smyth’s towards the end . Stick it up a few and see what happens !
I thought the ref also had the mindset of “ palace have better players so everything must be a free kick “ when we did on the odd occasion get near to them . |

Would tend to agree with this .
All a little OTT this thread isn’t it? I mean I get it and it’s frustrating and switching the team around has its pluses and most definitely minus’, and we all hate losing etc etc .
But we have injuries and limited sized squad .
If we lose tonight with a full strength team and get more injuries to key positions for Saturday then all the same people are bleating about not resting people, giving others a try etc …..it’s all ifs buts and maybes.
More minutes for Varane and Saito who by and large did pretty well . More for Madsen and Celar too who struggled a little but it will help them in the long run. Ashby made a few errors looked confident and competent .
I just don’t think it’s all about tonight and a cup run. MC is looking at the bigger picture and we have to trust that even if we don’t win Saturday . |
