I’ll make it make sense… it’s not about number of overall votes, it’s about numbers of seats won. You could win one seat by a majority of ten million votes but still lose the election if your opponent gets more seats by a majority of just one vote per seat.

When people talk about winter fuel and tv licences in conjunction with oap’s it’s as though every single oap in this country is destitute and struggling.
Whilst there probably are ones like that, sadly, there are many, many more that are quite well off, and good luck to them for that. So, i don’t think it’s unfair that they should not get an allowance in order to help others that do need it. Do others disagree with that?

I bet politicians and mass media love all this.

Keeps everyone distracted by arguing and trying to score points with each other whilst it just goes around in forever circles. Each side trying to win when neither can.

Take Facebook, it’s patently obvious threads are created to engage arguments and disagreement and people in their thousands all bite, whether the post is just click bait or more sinister such as data harvesting.

Mine are 9 3/4 and 6 1/2. It goes by really quick but seems ages to get there!

I remember both birth days vividly and whilst i was a bit hopeless the first time around when he was born, other than holding him in a blanket, that was due to sheer inexperience. Second time, totally bossed it.

Don’t bother with”how to…” books, all they do is make the author rich. You’ll figure it out with the help of family and friends. Don’t get sucked into buying tons of schit you don’t need. Places like mothercare are a business and will say/do anything to get as much out of your wallet as possible, they’re not your friend.

I looked at those early years as a series of 6-month events. Things you did in the first six months won’t happen in the next but will be replaced with something else and so on.

Most of all, enjoy it. It will be tiring (sorry, but that never goes away), it will be expensive (ditto) , try and keep calm because as they get older they will push as many buttons as feasibly possible but the amount of love, attention and affection you give them, they will give it back ten fold.

Just about to go on holiday with mine so may change my mind when i get back!!

That’s pretty grim reading but most of it won’t affect us so I just hope the club realise they need us.

Football at the very top of the top (which most of those bullet points apply to) has long gone, it’s so distanced to how it was pre ‘92.

18 months or so ago we had our annual st georges day party in the high street. Road blocked off, stalls, music, bouncy castles etc etc. really nice day and i’m on one of the street corners and a policeman is having a little chat with this guy who’s a tad worse for wear. All very convivial, no problems then suddenly this bloke charges in with his phone pointing at the policeman getting all entitled about ‘his own rights’ to video the situation and this and that. (Don’t recall anyone asking for his involvement). Even the pi$$ed bloke looked surprised and didn’t seem to know who he was.
So, a fairly well handled situation suddenly goes downhill because this tw@t decides to involve himself in something that’s none of his business and get all righteous about it and starts getting in everyones faces, including the policeman. This bloke didn’t seem drunk himself, just a fking entitled pain in the @rse.
I don’t know how the police do their job sometimes, I really don’t.

Absolutely but part of me is hoping that Nourry will have seen the magnificent support last season, a full house v spurs and strong support at Reading yesterday. Clubs need fans, don’t mug them off.

Just back. Nice day out with the kids at their first away game spoilt by 90 mins of football in between.
Can’t say much more than already said. Fans turned up, players didn’t (and yes, i know it’s a friendly). Smyth our most lively player and was constantly hacked down by different Reading players. Paal most disappointing. Everyone else in between were ‘meh’.

They all do it though. BJ did more u-turns than a black cab.

I've said many times that regardless of which party is in government, there has to be some kind of consequence to this. I get it that if they try their best but don't quite make it but if they clearly haven't even bothered, something needs doing about it.

Again, I point to that interview in 2019 by Andrew Neil with Liz Truss when he asked her how many new starter homes had they actually built based on their promise in 2014 to build 200,000 and not only did she not know the answer, but Andrew Neal reminded her it was an easy number to remember, "it's zero."

This kind of thing, from all sides, needs to be accountable for.

Spotting of talent at a very young age
at 11:37 26 Jul 2024

Was just going to say the same. It's a meat grinder process and very few come out the other end.

My son plays youth football and quite frankly has bossed it the last 2 1/2 years. Has won multiple awards, played in literally every position (inc. goal keeper) and always gives 110% and has very often been involved in match deciding moments, at either end.

So, a month or so ago the coach suggested putting him up for a trial at the local Star Player team as he felt he'd pass no problem.

We went along to both sessions and he was just as good as everyone else that turned up.

Did not get selected.

I'm not sure what these coaches are looking out for? All the tests were tikky-takky close ball control stuff. Yeah, all very well but not much good when an opposition player barrels towards you. Some freeze, others deal with it.

There was no real-world testing. Where were the defensive tests? What about the long pass or observing the game and making decisons? All very well being able to pass to someone 10ft away from you but the players should be able to do a long pass at this stage/age.

Why wasn't there a 10 minute match set up to see how they all performed in an actual game?

Oh well.

Remember, friendlies like this can be done for 'stress testing'. i.e. they'll purposely set things up knowing the defence, for example, will be under a lot of pressure and goals conceded but it's about seeing how the players deal with it rather than worrying about the scoreline.

At least that the straws I'm clutching at!

Taking my kids to their first ever away game on Saturday and that one I do want to win! My poor daughter has been to three games and seen two defeats and one win. She was not a happy bunny!

If the Dynamo Kyiv players don't get pi$$ed on the flight to the second leg in Belgrade, they should be OK.

Eze for England!
at 15:26 23 Jul 2024

Point being the article implied that he has to go to Saudi Arabia to secure his kid's and grand-kids future.

£50-60m not enough already to do that?

Apparently his missus wants 'an exotic adventure'. I'm sure it'll be warmer & dryer than Manchester but other footballers' partners in Saudi Arabia have already revealed the difficulties they have faced there.

It's also reported that "if he could earn a living that sets up his children, and potentially their children for life, why should he not take that option?"

PMSFL - what, £425,000 a WEEK here is not enough? He's probably netted £60m+ at City. He could retire today and his kids will already be set for life, multiple times over.

A friend of mine out there has two little kids. When there was one of many school shootings a couple of years ago the authorities came up with a suggestion.

What do you think it was……

Ban guns?
Better security?

No….. make the kids backpacks bulletproof

Anything but actually solve the real problem.

What a country indeed.
