What part of that is an explanation of how you can mentally square the circle of being in favour of both players refusing to do what the manager tells them and criticising players alleged to have attitude problems? |

The problem is that the ICJ opinion on this whole thing was advisory anyway (genuinely advisory and not pretend advisory like the Remaniac bores pretend the referendum was) and has absolutely no legal weight whatsoever. Any UK Govt worth its salt would have just ignored it, but unfortunately we haven't had one of those since the 90's. That we find ourselves in a situation where a Government that seems to actively despise the country it's ostensibly leading can not only give away something that we already own, but pay through the nose to keep using it anyway whilst at the same time pleading poverty in other areas is borderline satirical. Ealing Studios couldn't have come up with a more bonkers plotline. |

Yep. All of which makes it borderline unbelievable that one of the few credible midfield youth products that we have has spent most of the season being slagged off for not being a winger. Or that barely anyone else from the u21's has had even had a sniff of the bench. This is another reason why I find the excuse for Williams that his squad is weak to be a poor one. Yes there are certain areas that need beefing up, but he's left plenty of stones unturned in his efforts to get the best out of it. Again that's a repeat of what we saw from his mentor. Repeated failure to play players in the right positions, give youth a decent chance and perhaps employ tactical systems intended to get the best out of what he has available whilst his defenders whine that his squad isn't good enough and he needs to be backed. |

Monk's "autobiography" is an interesting read if you want an insight into his character. He comes across as full of himself, thin skinned and able to carry ten times his body weight in grudges. |

Sadly Monk had wormed his way into Jenkins' good graces, and what with the Tutumlu situation on top we kept the wrong one. Gazza purging many of the Spaniards or those Laudrup favoured (like De Guzman) when he got his feet under the table definitely didn't help our style from then on. |

For sure you'd expect a pro to have the sense to just lose the ball if in trouble, but we are also dealing with someone giving orders who comes from the Russell Martin coaching tree. FWIW I believe that he was mostly just rusty. We asked him to do most of the same things that we do for Vig and he wasn't game sharp enough on the distribution side. The first goal we conceded I'd put down to a lack of matches with those in front of him. Vig will have an understanding of what Darling and Cabango will do. They will have an understanding of what each other and Vig will do. None of Naughton, Christie or McLaughlin looked comfortable playing alongside each other which was only to be expected. There's no substitute for actual game time. Both individually and as part of a team together. That's also been part of our problem going forward this season with the amount of chopping and changing we've done. |

Yes, you keep saying that players should stand up to coaches. You're also fond of criticising players for alleged attitude problems. Can't do both. |

And if the manager has specifically told you not to? Chucking a keeper lacking in recent game time in to play behind two right backs filling in at CB was just the latest in stupid tactical and personnel decisions made by Williams. LV should have played if we were that sparse at the back. |

Yep. For the same reason I can't take the calls for Osian Roberts seriously. He's done nothing in management to warrant being handed the reins of a Championship club either. We need someone with at least five years of experience behind him at the higher levels of a league. Preferably one of the stronger European ones. Appoint another rookie and we're probably going to end up in the same situation. |

In fairness he was managing in League Two because he'd just got promoted from the division below. We'll grant him that. His record in the division above with Swindon however wasn't good. 75 games, 22 wins, 34 defeats. Relegated and sacked. Not sure why we thought he'd done anything to justify being given the reins of a club the division above that again, other than to be associated with Russell Martin. If he'd had no previous links with us, would he have been a serious candidate at all given his mediocre track record? |

Apparently Vipotnik's missus gave birth yesterday morning. We took him all the way to Southampton same day and he didn't even get off the bench when we could have given Wilson some times with the first team squad and maybe even some minutes on the pitch instead. That's pretty poor man management again. [Post edited 13 Jan 7:32]

Yep. We have nowhere near one of the worst squads in the division. Could do with beefing up in certain positions for sure, but most would probably say the same. Mid table is about where we should be. That's the key for me. Even a squad of poor players can look like they're organised, drilled, working to some sort of plan or even vaguely resemble a team of people who haven't mostly all met on the bus on the way to the game. Twelve months on after Williams arriving can anyone honestly say that's what we are? |

Last paragraph is it for me. It's just a limitation of a lot of coaches these days. If they don't have players of the right type or quality to play the way that they want to play, the concept of maybe playing a different way doesn't register with them. They're all so desperately one dimensional. All trying to Ape Guardiola. |

It is unfortunately the mindset these days. There are far too many people who build their opinions of players from what they glean on stats websites rather than actually watching games. "Completed passes in the final third" is one that people often rave about him on. Of course, mostly that's just playing passes from flank to flank. Hurting nobody. Creating nothing. Killing tempo. You can see that with your eyes on the pitch. You don't need Transfermarkt to tell you that it's pointless. Likewise the five or six touches when two or three will do, the immediate pass back where the ball came from even though he's in yards of space to turn, the runs made by forwards for a pass that if it comes at all comes too late, or behind them. If I thought he was incapable he wouldn't annoy me half as much as he does. [Post edited 12 Jan 18:27]
