Really depends on the loan. Sometimes a club has a player on big wages who isn't playing but they can't or won't sell (see Jadon Sancho), or a talented player who's a season away from the first team and can be shopped around to clubs in the division below who couldn't otherwise afford him (like Jesurun Rak-Sakyi this season). In that case they'll be looking for a loan fee or some % of wages or both and are likely to get it, especially if there's competition for the signing. Other times it's just about getting the player competitive minutes, and the club cares more about the style of play of the team he's going to, what the training facilities are like, how closely they can monitor him while he's away. For Spurs we tick a lot of those boxes at the moment (see also getting the pre-season friendly against them), so you'd think we're high up the list of clubs they'd look to make this kind of loan to and while they might want some money for it they might also consider that the wages they're paying a talented 18 year old aren't that big of a deal and they're more interested in fast-tracking his development. Or sometimes football is football and the player is cheap or free because your chairman's mates with their chairman or their manager used to play for you and fancies doing you a favour (see Hodge and Hayden last season, who I think Clive mentioned at one point were both here for little or nothing). |

On another thread someone mentioned that Kakay didn't want to go out of London on loan last season, I think because he's got a young family. That may be restricting his options a lot. Here's hoping he either gets a club or is financially comfortable enough not to need one - he wasn't quite good enough to be a starter in the Championship but he always tried and seems to be known as a good lad. It's a shame for Santos that it hasn't worked out, but not a disaster from the club's point of view - picked someone up on the cheap, found it didn't work, moved him on somewhere else quickly to mutual benefit. The model will probably give us a couple of these every season and as long as they go like this that's fine. |

Coming in ready to make a good impression on Sam Field specifically. |

Hate the bloke. Thought it was telling in that Bradley Orr interview a while ago that Barton decided to make it his personal mission to 'smash' Taarabt in training to prove a point. Whatever you might think of Adel's lax attitude to training, he was a massive player for us and Barton, who never had 10% of his ability, went out of his way to try and injure him and undermine the manager's authority in the process. Not the worst thing he's ever done (it's a long list) but demonstrative of his character. |

Rock bottom of League One and he still can't get a game. |

That's basically all FLW is - they'll publish any old nonsense about how someone's mate heard from his third cousin who's the groundsman at another club that a transfer was definitely on. You can be as critical as you like of Nourry but I'd be stunned if he dropped a clanger as massivve as this. |

He was pretty anonymous against Hull, not his best game, and he hasn't really been at his best all season (understandably given no pre-season and a couple of different injuries). I'm a lot less worried about it now with genuine alternatives available, which makes us less dependent on him and also means he can ease back into fitness with less pressure. |

I thought we were unlikely to sign Edwards because Southampton will want to keep hold of him and we probably can't afford him, but there's now the amusing possibility that they go down and we go up and we do it anyway. |

Saito going to be very surprised when he speaks to someone other than Smythy and finds that he understands English after all. |

I thought his forward play was excellent against Plymouth, but it fell off a bit last night. Would guess that Plymouth didn't press anywhere near as well and he had a bit more time on the ball, so hopefully he'll continue to improve as he's certainly capable of it. |

Jokes aside Lloyd's technical ability is growing game by game - he had some really nice touches in there to hold up the ball under pressure. His physicality and energy is consistently excellent but he looks more of a footballer each time he comes on. Thought all of the back 4 were excellent today - after the initial wobble Edwards has slotted in really well. Varane immense again, Saito completely changed things on the left after a pretty anonymous showing from Chair, as did Lloyd replacing Kolli. Really don't ever want to see Ashby again. His decision-making is just woeful; he looks worse than he is because he tries to be clever when he doesn't need to be. If he stuck to doing the basics a bit more I think there'd be a player in there, but he still thinks he's on an academy pitch. It cost us against Leicester and gave us trouble here too. Worse for me today than Madsen, who didn't do a lot but did at least do it right when he was involved. Putting that negative aside, the togetherness in this squad right now is something special - Jimmy rushing up to praise Lloyd for winning the free kick late on, the whole squad celebrating Koki getting his goal. That spirit is a big part of what's dug us out of 24th and it'll be what drives us to the play-offs if we manage to get there. |

There should be an option to update your squad to the current one - now that everything is a live service they can do that kind of update pretty easily. I have it on PS5 and was able to do this. |

Given our new policy on youth players I expect him to start on Saturday. |

He's talking about ticket pricing, because some other clubs have removed stuff like discounts for pensioners, or massively dropped the age cutoff for kids tickets etc. |
| Forum Reply | Alfie Lloyd new deal at 12:32 16 Jan 2025
He was early on, as was Kolli, but they both got exposed defensively. Chair is our best player and Smyth our quickest, but they're also both defensively hard-working and that's why they're first choice, and why Saito backs up both of them. I don't think Lloyd or Kolli lacks commitment, but both of them struggled in that role. In our system the lone striker still has to press from the front (and Frey made a big difference when he came back because he works very hard at that), but it isn't as immediately fatal if they get it wrong because they're better-supported, particularly now that we have Morgan's legs in there too. It's a better role for Lloyd's pace and energy at the minute, because it doesn't ask as much of him in that sense, plus central defenders who've just spent an hour getting bashed about by Michy Frey aren't thrilled to then have to handle a player like Lloyd who has both speed and strength. |
