Oldham game 23:20 - Jan 31 with 31565 viewsonedalefan

As the decision regarding the state of the pitch is down to the match referee and, out of the last three games, two decided it was playable and one didn't, at what point do the club get the pitch inspected by the referee appointed for Tuesday to decide whether, in his opinion, the game can go ahead. Do they get a local referee who comes to a different decision. Don't leave it until 90 minutes before the kickoff when the match referee arrives.

right then so onto Tuesday night game. Hopefully on as I’ll be coming down from hull to watch the game. Genuinely think we can beat them. McNulty showing he can play good football whilst also getting results. As for Oldham been very weak as of late so the postponement has worked in our favour and I feel we are playing them at a good time. Hopefully kairo can bag. Only thing I am worried about it Mike fondop for them. Real threat in front of goal and in good form. Will be a handful to contain him but I feel like our defence has been solid as of recent. All in all feel like it will be a thrilling game as per and a passionate one as usual. Hopefully not too much happening off the pitch and it all happens on it (football) come on Dale !!!

now dont want to brag about my ability to predict how the game played out but... if i can tell the threats of oldham without ever watching them, how has mcnulty got it so wrong if hes watched them for homework. absolutely shocking. you keep mike fondop quiet then you keep oldham quiet. why have we not targeted him and man marked him. all oldham do is hoof it up and fondop holds it up. we constantly let them hoof it up to him and he does what he does best. waller deserves massive credit and had a fabulous game. hes the only player who can take some credit and pride out of that oldham game. serious reaction needed against ebbsfleet.

I like Ayinde performance and the way he ran at the defences, but I think we need an additional striker, because after Dennis return to MK Dons, we are lightweight up front, so I would like to see us sign a new striker in on loan to wake up Rodney, whose performance against Oldham was poor.

At the moment we seem to playing 3-4-3 and it was just 2 midfielders against Oldhams 3, so they were able to take control of the midfield. It makes we wonder if we would have coped better with somebody like Weston or even using Hendo's experience in our midfield to stop us being overwhelmed and so operate a 3-5-2 system. It is a pity that Henry got injured and had to return to Charlton, we have missed him.

I read the game in the same way.

Rodney was a passenger up front whilst East and Gilmour were being out numbered in midfield . Replacing Rodney with an extra body in midfield would have made us more competitive I’m sure. On the night probably McBride or even Henderson playing deeper could have played there.

To me this lack of a battling midfielder who can play has been missing from our squad from some time. The Gary Jones type role. Probably Matty Lund was the last player we had.

We couldn’t compete with Oldham on Tuesday and we have struggled against other top clubs York, Barnet, Forrest Green. Simply we don’t have the players we need.

Tuesday night probably showed us where we are as a team. Good enough to challenge at the top end of the table and more than capable to secure a playoff spot, but not enough file and quality to challenge for the top spot.

This season is probably a step to far for us ,(although I’m not saying we should give up), but this summer we are starting from a much better squad to start with and hopefully recruitment will allow us to add the type of players we need to compete, after all it will be year 2 of the 3 year plan.

I actually thought we should have beaten Forest Green home and away.

Common theme is that we out footballed Forest Green over 4 halves of football and didnt score one goal. One for the analyst that one.

180 minutes could easily have had 6 points and our overall haul was 1 point and we scored NO goals.

Watch the Oldham highlights immediately followed by Forest Green home and away. Thats 270 minutes of nice and pretty but ineffective football.

Shooting is wasteful (High or wide or both) or powder puff. Simply put we just don't look hungry enough when we get on the bigger stage and our finishing reflects that.

The drill the forwards do in the warm up every pre-match is a waste of time if they will not shoot on target when they get a chance in the actual match.

Personally, I feel we’re not competitive enough against better teams in this division. However, I would also argue that we lack a serious amount of character within the squad and management team. We have picked up one point from losing positions all season at Spotland and this is clearly a problem because (as mentioned previously) we don’t score enough goals and overplay.

Jim mentioned at the fans forum that he took responsibility for shooting towards the sandy in the first half- maybe it’s contributed negatively towards our results this season. For years we managed to score late goals and turn games around, on Tuesday night we didn’t look like scoring in the second half. Maybe Jim got this one ,as well as many other things, wrong this season.

Which way we shoot has little to no relevance. It’s not as though we have a Kop or Stretford End to suck the ball in.

For years recently we shot towards the Sandy Lane in the second half, and our home form was the worst it’s been in history. In fact, our few home wins came with more regularity when we shot towards the TDS in the second half. Now that we’ve switched to shoot towards the TDS second half permanently our home form has taken an upturn. I highly doubt it has any relevance though!
