Great news all round. Some welsh cup derbies, possibly European football to look forward to and it’s good for Welsh football. Very pleased with this. A Swansea v Cardiff final with Europe at stake would be a big event. A chance for some of our under 21s and fringe players to show what they can do in a first team environment as well. 👏🏻

A question and please answer it honestly. Will you be attending these matches. I doubt very much if I will.

Yes I will. I always used to enjoy the Welsh cup games. It’s a different competition with the carrot dangled of European football which adds another dimension. I’m sure our fans who were at Valencia for example regard it as one of the best days in the history of our club. It might be seeded in which case it won’t capture full interest until the last four stage.

Seeing the project would be re assessed after four years and possibly cancelled, plus any team getting to the Premier League automatically withdraws. We may never qualify for Europe through this format anyway.

OK, I read that and, with the proviso our league standing is never compromised, I can support it as long as it doesn't have a detrimental effect on our league position.

Questions though, what happens to any money generated in Europe? If it goes into infrastructure then ok I guess.

What happens if we manage another English cup win?

I can only support it because its sole intention seems to be to improve grassroots in Wales. It still doesn't seem, to me, to be a massively good thing for SCFC, extra games for our team without being allowed to use any money generated to improve the squad.

Of course if Swansea progress they will make money and bank money from the run. This will come from prize money TV money S4C perhaps. ? Extra for advertising exposure and fate receipts. Swansea Cardiff or Swansea Wrexham would get big crows too.

I explained what ths wording meant. The revenue from Europe can be used to paid bills and buy players. It cannot be used for accountancy purposes to buy pass PSR rules. This make sense. It is the loss of £35m over 3 years business. Euro money is excluded.

This is my understanding of the wording.

I remember the Welsh Cup in the 1980s/early 90s.
It is not given we will progress and win it.

Who remembers the annual defeat to Merthyr at The Vetch in the late 80s (with a first XI). Dave Webley and co would always get the better of us.
I also remember the Welsh Cup in 1992 when we lost to Cardiff and a Chris Pike handball.

Throw in the only dates available for these matches would be midweek. Who would honestly want us to put out a strong team between two weekend Championship games. Some might say play the u21s, they have lost to Welsh league teams in recent seasons. There is no guarantee we would proceed past the first round.

Yes I recall the Merthyr games. I was at the Vetch on the night when Dai Webley made a fool of our centre backs. Mind you they were a good side then. I’d like see Merthyr play in this new Welsh Cup but it doesn’t look likely.

There’s nothing guaranteed but these days Swansea are Wales number one club and playing in the Championship. Back in the late 1980s and 1990s we were a Dividion 3/4 club. With crowds of around 5000/6000.

Wrexham are far more powerful these days too. Newport as well aren’t bad and TNS look ok.

There are no guarantees and that makes Cup football exciting. So be it if we go out early.

It depends on how seriously we take it. I’d like to think that we will prioritise it over the Carabao Cup certainly.

I wonder how teams already in the league feel about this. Seems the Welsh FA are flush with money while failing to support the grass roots, one of the reasons for the new cup competition. Smacks of hypocrisy for me.

I suspect FAW want to see the bigger towns involved like Merthyr Barry Bangor, Rhyl and Llanelli. Carmarthen town with town of 11,000 or so have no where to go.

The problem I see with this system is are the fans going to behave? Will the Swansea Cardiff games be bubble games? Probably no and yes seem the likely answers.
