Moneyball 22:59 - Nov 9 with 2121 views | oldmeadoniansR | I mean this is shit. I was there today and manically celebrated Bennie coming on. Bennie for god's sake. But in reality does our current shitness reflect the relative value of our squad? I don't know and perhaps Bristol Cities squad is worth no more than a packet of out of date Nobby''s nuts but are we all getting angry when in fact bottom is not far off our players net worth.

Are you serious!? Wow. I never knew that we have reportedly paid that much for two players who have never played at a level that can be deemed as being championship equivalent.

If we assume their current value is about £65 then the OP may have a point.

Look I know we all think they are crap and were in a desperate mess but when we were buying the players the figures talked about were between 1.5 to 2.5 so I don't think we've paid anywhere near that figure.......oh there still a waste of very limited resource money....

I thought the figure floating about for Madsen was 3.5 - 4 million? That seems to be what everyone I spoke to seems to think (altho everything is kept so quiet who really knows)

I’d assume (pray) that half of that is performance-based. The bigger issue if we go down is these guys being on long contracts and wages at a level we can’t give them away. Obviously he and Celar have started woefully. As bad as it’s been it is early days and I’m sure had this forum been around people would have written off various players who looked bad to start with and turned out to be good. Saying that I’ve seen nothing to suggest Madsen will turn it around so it’s hope rather than expectation. Celar still some hope but that’s waning quickly.

Certainly didn't see those figures at all when we signed him, now people are guessing and probably inflating the transfer fee as they are hugely pissed off...... Agree with Watford the big problem may well be the length of contract and salary, let's face it he's never going to move on and at the moment Madsen looks like a downgrade on Dozzell and I would never have thought that was achievable with a decent budget and a half decent bit of scouting. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Obviously we don’t know how true this (yet, net player expenditure will come out in the accounts in time) but it was reported here. https://the72.co.uk/2024/08/21/qpr-fee-nicolas-madsen-medical-next/ https://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-wls-qpr-madsen-signing So, from this you’d deduce it is £2m up front rising to £3.2m. Celar, I’m sure someone said was a net neutral deal with the Armstrong sale, net of the 25% going to Shamrock, so £1.88m if Armstrong went for £2.5 or £1.5m if he went for £2m. There were the two sales numbers quoted by the press.

Celtic have done this sort of thing very well in recent years. O'Riley is only the most recent example, Jota before him. Kuhn will be next and maybe Kyogo. But they have huge support, champions league money and not much domestic competition.
