The Morgan - Varane - Field midfield
at 09:52 24 Feb 2025

Yep - and the situation has been made more complicated by Chair being available again.

Basically, you can play Chair at 10 at home, Morgan at 10 away.

Gaffer on today's defeat
at 09:48 24 Feb 2025

Agreed, and it's the same old song about the manager only being able to do so much until the players cross the white line; then they do have to take some responsibility in terms of adapting to the game in front of them.

But I still disagree with the manager's starting line up, and as mentioned he probably could have made his subs sooner.

Ultimately though pretty much all the players has a bad day at the office; main thing is we learn from the mistakes and we do better in the next match.

Cheers Clive - yeah felt like it was going to be a long afternoon as soon as the game kicked off. Pompey's kick and rush very effective, you could see why they do well at home and we didn't fancy it much, plus the ref was happy for them to leave a foot in most of the time.

Agreed on the team selection, I think Marti's got a bit carried away of late. Fine to be more attacking and open at home (for the most part) but away and especially at places like Portsmouth you need a bit more grunt in the middle to earn the right to play.

Decent away support as ever and it's still a great old ground, although the away end facilities leave something to be desired when it's packed out like that; probably not dissimilar to the School End though (albeit an al fresco version...).

On to the next one.

Corners
at 14:53 12 Feb 2025

Well we stumbled across the "stick it on Jimmy's head" gambit and that worked for a bit but of course teams are wise to that now - hence the WWE/heavy petting side show last night (reckon they could have pulled a gun on Jimmy and the ref would have been fine with it).

So er yeah maybe we need another plan - there was the one corner last night first half which Colback spaffed wide from the edge of the area, seemed to work well but don't know if planned or not!

The "everyone standing on the goal line" one last night was new to me - but then I don't watch much Prem football.

Either Nardi got lucky earlier but it felt like that last corner was a concerted effort to get in his way.

Of course it also helps if corner takers can hit a decent dead ball with pace and depth (and not hit the first man every time...). And inswinging corners always far more dangerous than outswinging ones.

We train throughout the week apparently, so no reason why we can't adapt and improve our corner taking.

Another New Signing?

Promising.

But probably a bit young to step up next season if we lose most of our CBs?

Did Nardi Cost us the point?

Yeah that was my main gripe, the poor game management at the end.

But I suppose I should be happy we were still trying to win the game?

March tough, but then we usually raise our game against the better teams?

I'd probably be more worried if all those games were against teams below us!

I thought Paal's cross could have been better, needed a bit more pace on it which made it a bit more tricky for Frey. Still think the keeper did very well too.

Fair point on the Nardi sit down/ time wasting in the last ten minutes, I didn't see what the point was. Don't think Cov were applying great pressure at that point in the match?

I know you're singling out Nardi for that last corner but clearly he was MOTM - without all his saves in the game we'd already have been dead and buried by the 90th minute!

You moan about the officials and then pick out Field, when Cov were leaving a foot in all night and happy to go to ground at any opportunity.

Are you actually a QPR fan?

Consistently inconsistent

Mid table mediocrity is a definite improvement on the last two seasons battling relegation! Assuming that's where we end up, I can definitely live with that.

Thought we had a good go last night but ultimately Nardi was the much busier of the two keepers and the Frey chance was the only clear cut one we had. 94th minute loss is always a sickener but in the end it is only one point dropped.

A meeting of the Championship's two great recoveries - Preview
at 13:25 11 Feb 2025

Cheers Clive.

Definitely an interesting one tonight. Once again we travel in hope, not necessarily doom and gloom as the Numpster has alluded to elsewhere. It will depend somewhat on the team selected and whether the manager is feeling confident to start Chair again (or be more pragmatic and bring Varane back).
